This luxurious hotel can be found in the Nana district and boasts that it has the largest selections of vegetarian Thai dishes in the world, making this a great place for vegetarians to stay. The hotel also serves as an animal shelter to more than forty rescue cats and guests are willing to bring their own pampered pets with them when they stay here. the Atlanta Hotel is eco-friendly and has a strict non-smoking policy and there are great lunch and dinner buffets for guests to sample.

Honestly this place's historical appeal is great until you actually have to stay there. Historical apparently means they don't clean the pool, the rooms are always under construction, and a level of pompous service usually not found in SE Asia.

Also the location is pretty far away from anything unless you want a soapy massage.

I have a thing for time-warp hotels with slightly cranky management. If you don't, obviously skip this review and move on. The Atlanta is so spectacular, I basically planned a whole second trip to Bangkok around staying there. It opened in the 1950s, and has barely changed a bit. In fact, its stellar lobby with Louis Armstrong tunes piped in seems even older. The rooms are pretty basic (some have balconies), and housekeeping can be erratic. But on the plus side, there's a lovely pool, incredibly kindly staff in the very good restaurant and a general feeling that you belong to a club if you really mesh with the Atlanta mindset. (Do you know the word "catamite"? FYI, they, and other sex-tourism-related things, are not welcome here. This might give you a sense of what they're going for...)

The Atlanta is probably the most memorable place to stay in Bangkok. It’s a cheap, beautifully restored historic hotel with a pool and plans for new bathrooms with American-style water pressure by high season this winter. It’s located on Soi 2 off of Sukhumvit, but those facts, and the physical address don’t even begin to describe this place. The Altlanta describes its self as, “popular with cultured occidentals, with writers, academics, artists, cinema & theatre and other professional people, with dreamers and innocuous eccentrics, and their families, who can afford to stay at more expensive places but choose to stay at The Atlanta.” Take a look at the menu (including footnotes) in the restaurant, the shelves of books written by guests, and the black and white photos with descriptions on the big board. Better writers than I have written about The Atlanta, its history, and its owner, Charles Henn:
