We booked a room at Suk 11 after hearing that Soi 11 is a great place to go out in Sukhumvit. The hostel seemed to get some mixed reviews, but as soon as we arrived, we knew we had made a good choice. Not only was the hostel huge and the rooms great, it was in the best location possible, right near Cheap Charlies. Can't really do any better for $25 per night. I'll definitely be staying there anytime I want to go back to that area.

I second what everyone else said. Plus I want to say tiny white lights. Aren't tiny white lights nice at night? They make everything feel kind of festive and elegant. The restaurant by/attached? to the hostel is packed at night which is a good sign.

Suk 11 is a Bangkok gem. Formerly a private residence, the double-story guesthouse has been converted to accommodate backpackers looking for clean, affordable, air-conditioned rooms. It's far enough away from Khao San Road and its many tourists, but just a 5-minute walk to the SkyTrain, which is quite easy to navigate. The neighborhood around Suk 11 is full of nice restaurants, bars, laundry drop-off services and shopping. In addition to the dedicated staff, it's the decor of Suk 11 that creates such a quiet retreat from the massive, bustling city. You approach the guest rooms along a seemingly endless hallway that's made of wooden walkways and lined with plants and natural art, making you feel like you've entered a forest instead of a hostel. The air-conditioning is super strong, as are the hot showers. A lounge on the second floor is equipped with AC, a DVD player, and a huge, flat-screen TV, and is the perfect spot to gather with friends at the end of the day and watch some of those DVD's you bought on the street. Breakfast, though simple (toast, jam, fruit, coffee/tea), is included. Wi-fi is also free, and with a signal that's as strong the air con, you may never want to leave the premises!

No trip to Thailand is complete without at least a few days in Bangkok, its largest and most exciting city. Accommodations in Bangkok tend to fall into one of two categories: huge, expensive, international hotels and cheap, bare-bones, backpacker hostels. Unfortunately the former are often impersonal and can easily eat up the bulk of your vacation budget while the latter are usually dirty, poorly equipped (no air conditioning!!!), and filled with rambunctious youths up till all hours. So what can you do if neither option sounds very appealing? Book your stay at Suk 11, one of the few places to stay in the city that is able to offer prices comparable to a hostel without any of the drawbacks of staying at one. In the style of the guesthouses that can be found in other parts of Thailand, Suk 11 is a private house with two floors of rooms that have been converted to accommodate paying guests. Since it is someone’s home, the care that goes into its maintenance is far above anything that you will find at a place run by disinterested employees. The owners keep it absolutely spotless, are personally invested in making sure guests have a great experience, and will even let you eat dinner with the family for a few extra bucks and a couple of hours warning. Also Suk 11 is not located anywhere near the backpackers ghetto of Khao San Road, where barefooted hippies abound but the only locals to be found are those trying to sell you things that you don’t need or want. Instead it is located down a quiet alley in a busy, up-market area with plenty of nearby restaurants, bars, and shopping, and just a few blocks away from the SkyTrain which can easily connect you to any other part of the city you so desire. Add in the free breakfast, air-conditioning in every room, and hot showers and you have at least one place in Bangkok that doesn’t “suk.”

One of the cleanest hostels I've ever been in though it looks like a work in progress. Fantastic location, very central, down the street from Siam Supperclub.
