The Vineyard Hotel and Spa is situated in the suburbs but you wouldn’t know it. Tucked into a very large perfectly manicured grounds, it looks up into the mountain and is very tranquil. Although this hotel is very modern in its look and feel, there’s a lot of history and family woven in. Some rooms have hand stitched tapestries from the matriarch and paintings from one of the daughters. I’m not usually a fan of the country club vibe, but I did like the place. The large hotel has you completely covered for a relaxing time: there’s a large lap pool as well as indoor heated pool, a few of choices for dining (including a tea room and sushi bar alongside the restaurant). It has a very well equipped gym with personal trainers if you wish and a spa which specialises in Thai treatments. Also, complimentary wine tastings are given each evening. Kids will love the resident tortoises which you can feed num nums (little berry-like fruits) from the garden.
10/20; Rooms 5/10, Facilities+Dining 3/5, Service 2/5. Located in a leafy suburban area, a short drive from the bulk of Cape Town's attractions, this hotel is a mixed bag. The rooms are quite soulless - functional, yet not particularly welcoming nor well laid out. Biggest issue is the level of noise from the hallways - no chance of lying in unless you happen to have one at the end of a corridor. The gardens are expansive and lovely, the pool wonderful. The breakfast on the other hand is an absolute disaster, on all fronts; selection, quality and service all very poor for a hotel of this calibre. Competence of concierge staff also very questionable. All-in-all ok, but there are better options.
