Eek! $14 to park! But this is worth it. This hotel is an experience, from the farm to table restaurant (they say farm to fire), to the rooftop pool (30th floor) and fitness center (huge!). Look at the pool picture; it's all sky. Make sure to ask for a room with a view of the city. This hotel is perfectly placed to get a beautiful view of downtown; quite a spectacular view.
A group of friends and I stayed here years ago because we were in town for a concert, so you know it's affordable because we were all a bunch of broke college students at the time. However, this is not a low-end hotel. We just happened to get a good deal because one of our friends is extremely good at finding good rates.
Now that I've come back a much older and wiser person, I can't believe we were able to afford such a nice hotel. It's definitely appropriate for almost every level of guest, from the budget conscious to the business-minded. Just staying in a building that tall and iconic is an experience, but the interior of the place does not let you down. The restaurant/bar is big enough for most of the guests to dine, which is important because you're not really near anything (except the highway). I would recommend this to almost anyone because cheap people like college kids can pool resources and people with money won't have to worry about the quality of their hotel.
The Renaissance Dallas is the Design District's most recognizable landmark. "The Lipstick Building" earned its nickname because of its distinctive shape and cool, earthy color. This is actually one of my favorite places to "staycation" because the room rates are often reasonable. Though considered an old property by modern Dallas hotel standards, the Renaissance stays competitive with a sleek, modern lobby, dining in Asador's posh setting, and comfy rooms. You can enjoy a view overlooking the city in nearly every direction. One of my favorite features is the rooftop pool. You just don't get those very often in Dallas, let alone in a high-rise. The roof could stand to have a little more ambiance and shaded areas, but I still think it's a fun addition. It's a short spin down I-35 from the city center, and the Dallas Design District, where you'll find galleries, shops, and restaurants, is just across the highway.
I noticed the Renaissance Hotel really focused the multi-million dollar renovation on giving an enjoyable experience from the moment you step into the luxurious marble lobby, help yourself to some citrus water and speak to one of the smiling, helpful guest services attendants. The restaurant Asador, Spanish for grill has a farm to table, Latin flare and a tequila bar with over 100 varieties, easily making it the most extensive tequila menu I've ever seen. The calming guest rooms were done in warm tones and with comfy inviting beds, a laptop safe for your protection, a mini fridge and top of the line, Aveda toiletries. The fitness center and complimentary laundry facilities leave you without an excuse for skipping the gym which I (sometimes) need, but my favorite part was the heated rooftop pool with breathtaking views of the city that really add to the experience.
