Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur

The Royale Chulan has made the effort to be a Malaysian looking hotel, using the art and architecture styles from a couple different states in Malaysia. The city doesn't have many historical hotels--Carcosa seri Negara built in 1904 is one of the few authentically older hotels--so most visitors end up staying in high end high rises or low end budget places that aren't all that unique looking. The Royale Chulan is just a couple of years old, but they used a lot of tropical woods on the exterior and marble on the interior to try to evoke feelings of Malaysia in the colonial era and before. Some of the details that the chain hotels nail are a little off for a five star hotel, but there's a nice pool and spa, the rooms are big, and the entire hotel is enormous. Kids would have room to mess around here. It's also in a good location by the malls like Fahrenheit, Pavilion etc. and not very far away from Raja Chulan monorail stop. Near the pool it feels like you're in a rural village until you look up at the roof line and see the tips of the Petronas over the edge.

The spa was beautiful, with nice staff and it looks like it would be a great place to find out exactly what kind of techniques are used in Malaysian massage.

This place looks like a museum to me. It has really unique architecture from the outside which makes it one of a kind. When you enter there is no reception counter right in front of you but there is a resting area which is really comfortable to browse around. The reception counter is to the left. This is one of the places I would recommend to stay because it is out of high congested traffic area, beautiful hallway, nice restaurants inside and the spa is just amazing. The staff here is very friendly they would smile and provide all required information regarding the city without hesitation. The room is neatly done. The bathroom is connected with the room by a partition sliding door and the shower is quite small. The swimming pool looks like the average everyday swimming pool but the spa has its own lounge. According to the staff the place was built in accordance to Terrengganu style which is one of the state in Malaysia.
