Awesome Beachside Location & easy drive to shops / Mackay CBD / Tourist attractions

My wife & I had 2 nights accommodation in a perfectly located beach front villa (number 16).
Two bedrooms, well appointed amenities including both fans & a/c as well as a fully equipped kitchen.
The well maintained grounds, tropical surrounds & spectacular views of the Pacific ocean, made this a very memorable visit.
Friendly staff & a special thank you to the resort manager who looked after our needs.
We highly recommend Illawong Beach Resort to couples & families & look forward to our next visit.

Great value for families

For the price, you really can’t complain about this resort. The rooms are dated but clean. The beds are very firm, if you like that. I have some trouble sleeping when we stay here because I like a softer bed and pillows but my husband has no problem and waking up to the view of the water makes out worth it. Downsides are you have to tidy up really well before leaving or risk a cleaning charge and you can’t park next to your villa so we can’t leave our esky or anything else in the back of the Ute for extra storage like we usually would. If you book through Airbnb they’ll treat you completely diff than when you book through the resort. The real reason we stay here is the value for money, a 2 bed villa with an awesome pool within steps of the beach. A/C in every room. A pullout couch for our 3rd child. There’s a coin laundry on site that cleans and dries our family’s weeks worth of clothing in 45 min and that is a bonus! There’s never been a lot of people around when stay so it’s nice not to have a crowded pool or lots of noise. At the end of the day it’s fairly tidy and does the job, you wouldn’t find better value in Mackay if you have a bigger family and are on a budget. We love staying here!

Not a resort, needs a real clean.

I’m not sure why is called a resort. It’s just a selection of 2 or 4 bed cabins with a swimming pool and reception. Looks like maybe there used to be more but a long time ago. There definitely not ‘villas’ as they describe them. I believe we had number 30. Check in was fine and the lady we met pleasant. Honestly wanted to leave as soon as we saw it. I think they are all independently owned so owners use the excuse in multiple reviews that they can’t make the owners refurbish them. No excuse for the cleanliness though. The Kitchen was completely unusable- filthy! Couldn’t use plates/cups or cutlery- see photos. Fridge was dirty. Obviously the entire unit hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly for a long time. There was a hole in the bathroom door and wall. Air con unit full of dust. Clientele was not touristy or family friendly. Lots of workers and contractors obviously stay here and look like more longer term residents. I didn’t feel comfortable overall and I wouldn’t recommend. Needs a massive refurbishment and rebranding. It’s such a shame as the spot is beautiful and pool is nice it could be so lovely with a bit of work.

In need of some TLC

We stayed here for one night on our drive north. Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, but our experience of the villa we stayed in would suggest that there has been significant underinvestment over the years. Everything worked, but very dated and tired.

Nice place,a long way from it all

This is a great place to stay if you don't want to hear road traffic - but it is at the end of the Airport runway and planes fly over regularly. The units are equipped with a full kitchen, 2 double rooms and a great bathroom with plenty of water in a good shower. There are air-cos and a fan, tables and chairs outside the door too. There is a pool and BBQ area. We enjoyed our stay, but were pleased to have our own car as it is a long walk to the nearest shopping mall.
