We love 'Rivers Apartments'!
This is our second stay at River Apartments, the first time was relaxing but the second time was a lot of fun because we spent some time at the new club/beer garden/restaurant which was really enjoyable with great music and a wonderful atmosphere. This establishment also has a shop and bottle shop, what more do you need, everything is here. The staff are extremely friendly and the managers make you feel right at home. We love this place and the beds are very comfortable, which is hard to find in a motel these days. We cant wait to come back again and highly recommend River Apartments. Roger

Very Average
For what we needed, it was OK but the place is really tired and rundown and our room definitely needed some TLC which made me do a full bed bug check before we put anything down.
Pro's: can arrive anytime and a code gets you in your room. Tea and coffee, plus microwave and fridge gets you out of bother when on the road to eat there if you want and store food for the next days trip. Good shower - both heat and water flow.
Con's: No facilities open at all there, no reception person to assist with any advice considering nothing was open. Place is rundown and the photo's online aren't reality when you actually arrive. I can't say we really felt safe sleeping there at night given a lot of cars coming and going with noise and music which made us really uneasy. Cigarette burns in the bedding wasn't exactly welcoming either.
Served it's purpose, but I have to say we won't stay there again. If accommodation is full in the general area, we'd keep driving toward Melbourne to find something else.

Would not return
Very basic tired motel which has seen better days and needs a major renovation. It had the only rooms available in Sale because of the Archibald exhibition and without the wonderful Kris and Noel who were looking after the motel for 1 month, it would have been a disaster. They went above and beyond their role to make us comfortable and we are very appreciative of their help.

Very reasonable
This complex had keyless entry which was great as it didn’t matter what time we were arriving. Our room had recently been refurbished and made good use of a small space. The bathroom and the entrance to the shower could be a little tight for some but the shower space it’s self was quite large. For $90 per double including breakfast (toast, cereal, milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, butter and 4 different spreads) plus nice thick towels, 2 packs of soap, a comfy bed, a microwave and WIFI we couldn’t complain. It was easy to see the new owners were trying to improve the place without charging too much. We thought it could use some screen doors for fresh air but otherwise we were very happy and would stay again. We didn’t utilize the other services but thought it was great that there was a common lounge/TV area with open fire place, a common kitchen & dining area, a pool table, a children’s play area, BBQ facilities and free use of the washing machine if required.

Great place for the price
Close to sale, its actually walking distance to the shops and bars. The rooms closer to the front and the road have a lot of road noise because the walls and windows are thin. Better to get a room towards the back. with the walls being thin, you can hear your neighbors easily. Great amenities, large common area kitchen to cook all your food. rather large laundry area. There is a gas station next door, which makes quick snacks convenient. The owners are really nice and accommodating. The bed is a little hard for my liking, but overall for the price you cannot beat it in Sale. Long term rates are the best.
