Lucky grip
After a very spontaneous stopover on my way to my actual destination Carinthia, I liked it so much here, with the extremely warm, helpful Quehenberger family, that I have extended my stay without further ado and no longer want to go to Carinthia. The garden with a fantastic natural bathing pond in a phenomenal setting, the outdoor terrace, the quiet location - I found the place perfect for recreation, for sporting activities, even a brass band concert there during my stay in the place.
Everything worked out. The team is very motivated, fast, prudent, courteous, friendly. A really nice place!

Not worth it
This hotel has great customer reviews so we had high hopes when we arrived. What we arrived in most definitely didn’t match the reviews. I feel like most of the other customers were older people that have been visiting here for years and come because of that. For us the high price wasn’t worth the money and left quite disappointed.
Please note that Zell am See and Maishofen are beautiful and I really recommend visiting the area.
1. We had a family room, which it was, but it was very VERY basic. We visited several places and hotels during our holiday and this was the most expensive one and most basic and run-down. I feel like the quality was more like youth hostel but with a four star hotel price. We got a lot more with the same money at other hotels. The furniture was old, balcony furniture also needs updating. The pillows are shapeless and should be replaced. There’s a wall-to-wall carpet that didn’t feel clean (especially with the silverfish living under it).
2. The hotel has a silverfish problem. These little worms were everywhere. We saw them in the room and in the common areas.
3. Breakfast was basic and sometimes some of the food (especially egg products like fried eggs and desserts) had run out by 8-8.30 am. The breakfast ends at 9.30. There were a lot of flies. The cheese sometimes had around 5 flies at the same time on it. Margarine/butter was always melted.
4. There’s no communal areas in the hotel so no places to sit down and relax outside your room. There’s a restaurant which is open for a couple of hours during dinner time. We didn’t have dinner here. You have to book dinner the previous day by 11 AM.
5. Every night around 10-11 PM they were moving furniture in the restaurant which was very loud.
6. This is not particularly a family friendly hotel. There’s nothing to make kids feel welcome. Many hotels have a small play area outside or inside. This wasn’t a problem but on top of everything it’s just something we noticed.
The staff seemed nice and clearly the owner works hard, he was always there. Unfortunately none of them really spoke English so didn’t really have any discussions with them. They did seem to greet German speaking guests more.
The view from the room was beautiful.
We won’t be coming back and I recommend checking other options. Some hotels with the same price offer free Zell am See summer cards, this hotel is not in that partnership so they don’t offer it.

Guesthouse
My wife and I arrived from Bali, Indonesia, on 15 Feb and stayed 1 month in their guesthouse, which is beside the hotel/apartments and consists out of a number of apartments. Maishofen is ideal for skiing in the Saalbach/Hinterglemm and Zell am See area, but also not far away from the Kaprun and an hour drive to Kitzbuehel.
The owner only rents an apartment in the guesthouse for a longer period. We were 1 month there, but the owner prefers a rental period for 6 weeks.
The guesthouse consisted of a spacious, well equipped kitchen, an average (in seize) living room, well constructed bathroom/toilet and a big bedroom with 1 king size and 1 single bed. TV in the living room, but a second TV in the bedroom is foreseen. Parking in front of the house or the other side of the street. Heating radiators in all rooms, floor heating in the bathroom. We always found it a bit chilly in the bedroom, basically the coldest place in the apartment, probably because it is built above the garage. The apartment is very soundproof. Internet download average 18mbs/sec. Floor all wood, tiles in the bathroom. The apartment in the guesthouse is brand new and built from high quality materials
What we found a bit awkward is that bed linen was never changed and a responsibility for the guests, basically also for towels, although we got a few more than the one set. According to the owner such was the normal standard in Austria for living in a guesthouse. However, the annex had a washing machine and dryer (euro 2 for using) so no problem, we did the washing ourselves. However, it is advisable to bring 1 set of bed linen and towels.

a very good hotel
we were in this hotel with a group of 30 people. nice rooms, a very good restaurant. good service, it is a family hotel! there is a sauna, a small garden with a nice view on the mountains. the bar is not always open. there is no hairdryer in the rooms (?)

Charming and cosy hotel for a winterstay
We stayed with a group of families for 1 week. We were very pleased with the nice, very large and modern rooms. The owners, Elke and Peter, were extremely helpful and made us feel at home. Dinner was very tasty with each evening a salad bar.
The hotel is at walking distance from the centre of Maishofen. Zell am See is about 5 km, a nice walk through the valley. The hotel is ideally located for walking, mountain biking, hiking. The ski bus stops at the hotel and brings you to the largest ski region in Austria (Saalbach/Hinterglemm).
Wifi-access worked well.
