Excellent Value - A decent Base

I was a little worried about this place when I read some of the reviews, honestly its fine for the money. One of the main complaints seems to be about the noise - it’s on the ground floor, there’s a massive church opposite, and a school AND the tram line outside. Of course it’s going to be noisy! That being said my room had a good Aircon unit that kept it cool all night no problem.
There’s no privacy other than the tinted glass so the room is dark because you need to keep the curtains closed - that could be improved with maybe some screening.
The decor is what i would describe as ‘post industrial torture chic’. It’s like former soviet block interrogation centre had asked a home makeover show to soften their image. The single room felt like a solitary confinement cell but again - its a bed what else so you need? - the communal area has a sofa area and a small kitchen with a microwave and kettle. I was there for three nights and even though the rooms all seemed close to full you hardly saw anyone, never saw anyone else use the sofa area.
The Line ‘O’ on the tram runs from HBF to just a few yards away - there’s a decent spar next door and you are a few blocks from the amazing Hundertwasser house and Prater park is 15 mins walk.
Wouldn’t hesitate to book this place - best value for money I’ve had on my Interrail trip so far.

Stay away

We booked from booking.com.
After we arrived, we complained about a broken coffee machine and that the men's toilet is a mess ( only one toilet, shared with 10+rooms)
They gave us a refund and kicked us out from the hostel in the middle of the night, i requested to pay and stay for the night so at least in the morning i can find an alternative accommodation but they didn't care, they told us we already re booked it ( when we checked on all booking sites including theirs ,the room was still available.)
Stay away from this place, it's super expensive for a hostel, it has very small claustrophobic rooms, the rooms windows don't open and they are at ground level so you can hear all the people walking and cars passing by ( not good for shallow sleepers because it's noisy)
For an extra 20€-30€ you can book a 4-5 star hotel.
We paid €55 for the hostel
I recommend Florum Hotel (4 star) which is still in the centre of everything with friendly stuff and good amenities.
We paid €70/night ( worth every penny )

Everything was great, we would love to come back.

Location and price, a cozy and super nice combination. Everything is fine.

Great hostel close to the centre of Vienna!

Really easy to access, immaculately clean room and communal areas. Fridge with clear labels separating peoples items. Pillows in bed could have been comfier but other than that, the room was fine. Had everything I needed (other than a hairdryer). Good value for money.

It doesn’t get any worse.

It doesn’t really get any worse. I had a room facing the street with church bells, trams etc., which is usually no problem at all. Also the separate shower and the toilet are really manageable. But there is no noise insulation at all, so you could have a say with any passing pedestrian. Then when the church ringing and the tram noise are added, it's really over. Conclusion: the room is suitable for people who do not plan to sleep anyway. Never again!!
