A True Old Refuge House Rejuvenated

The men of the church knew how to live high! This former 'Refuge House' of bishops was where they scurried to if their out-of-town places were threatened and by any standards they lived very well. Nowadays it is a very enjoyable boutique hotel that has been very tastefully restored and furnished. The room was comfortable and the buffet breakfast excellent. As a base for easy access into Limburg this is a must repeat hotel for us. There is street parking adjacent but the hotel is at the wrong end of a one-way street that is hard to find even with gps because the Diest Council have implemented a crazy one-way system that takes you in circles - so just park in view of the hotel and walk into Refugestraat!!

No feeling of welcome

Nice breakfast room basic accommodation. Reception upon arrival was 4 out of 10. Spoke Dutch with difficulty and did not understand everything. You don't feel welcome. Room was simple but okay. It was quiet. Breakfast is a 3 out of 10. We agreed at 9am. Nothing ready. After 10 minutes of piping hot baked pistolets (were not fully cooked) very basic toppings but beautifully presented. Received 2 rolls each. When asking for an additional 20 minutes, new containers had to be added. Very sweet lady, but her Dutch is also limited.

Prima hotel in het centrum van Diest

Zeer leuk, klein hotel in het centrum van Diest: gehuisvest in een zorgvuldig gerestaureerd gebouw uit de 16de eeuw. Gezellige kamers. Lekker en verzorgd ontbijt. Openbare parkeerplaatsen voor het hotel. Het historische centrum ligt net om de hoek.
