Disaster in Montreal
Everything starts with a nightmarish communication: a Canadian number imposed to contact the host (an excellent idea for foreign travelers ) and a ghost WhatsApp (found on a site other than booking) that responds when it feels like it. The only "gesture" of welcome: being able to drop off our luggage at 3 PM instead of 4 PM. Thank you, what generosity.
The arrival? A sketch. We are directed to the 1st floor. Twenty minutes spent struggling with a code that does not work, under pressure, with the luggage... because in reality, we are on the 7th. And the host? Unreachable. Silent. Absent. A level of nonchalance rarely reached.
We finally push the door open and there... a smell. A mix of cheap cleaning product, mustiness, and tobacco. Strange for an apartment that has clearly not been properly cleaned in a while.
The bathroom is spacious, it is true. But the mirrors are covered in spit and mascara marks... a meticulous job. The shower is broken, handle and wall mount. And the first use? Boiling water impossible to regulate for a good 20 minutes. Inexplicable, and frankly dangerous.
The kitchen: sticky and disgusting dishes, unwashed burners that do not inspire cooking. The floor? Approximately clean, let's be crazy. I wouldn't set foot on the living room carpet even in a full-body suit. The couch is in the same miserable condition. And the TV stand? Covered in a layer of dust worthy of an apartment abandoned for months… which we happily contemplated on the first night, without a remote, without a solution, and without any response from the host, of course.
The remote was finally delivered the next day after we harassed WhatsApp. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The night? Icy. On the bed: a sheet and a bedspread with white stains of mysterious and frankly dubious origin = unusable, and which wouldn't have kept a mouse warm anyway. No comforter. None, for the entire stay, despite our repeated requests. We had to heat the apartment all afternoon to hope to survive the night. On vacation.
And the departure? The cherry on top. It is scheduled for 11 AM. Starting at 10:30 AM, a person is pacing in front of our door while we pack, creating perfectly misplaced pressure. And that same person who is yelling on the phone: "It's fine, you can do 701." We are joking. We are mainly wondering what is going to be "done" exactly, given the catastrophic state in which we found the apartment upon our arrival.
Booking contacted them following our report. No satisfactory response. No gesture. No visible remorse.
Absolutely to be avoided.
