I cried when we left!!
Firstly, Easter Island is a PHENOMENAL place to go!!! If you are currently at the ‘looking at accommodation to decide if you want to go there’ part of your trip planning, the simple answer is BOOK THE TRIP! Yes, it’s expensive and quite a long journey to get to Easter Island. No, you won’t regret it! Yes, it’s worth every penny you will spend when on the island. No, you won’t shut up about it when you get home!
Right, now that you’re committed to the trip – BOOK THIS ACCOMODATION.
The hostal owner, Patricio, set the tone of our stay from the moment he picked us up at the airport and presented us with a gorgeous lei. He was warm, welcoming and super helpful. He gave us a tour of the town and pointed out the key locations before taking us to the hostal where he gave us even more info and his WhatsApp number. There’s only a handful of rooms at the hostal; we stayed in a double room with sea view – it had a little terrace area outside to sit and enjoy the stunning views of the sea and mountains. The room was small but as we didn’t spend much time there it was perfectly fine (with a decent shower too). There’s no A/C but an electric fan that did the trick at keeping us cool (we went Mid-March, so the temp stayed around 25 degrees), and there’s lots of power sockets in the walls to charge up devices.
The hostal grounds are well-kept and stunning with lots of flowers and little beautiful nods within the décor to Easter Island culture. Patricio lives’ nearby so was on site in the morning, with a neighbour doing the cleaning of the public areas throughout the day (she had a cat that was always chilling nearby, very cute!). Like most of the island, there’s no outer permitter fence/ wall surrounding the hostal: this does mean that dogs enter the premises (but not the rooms). Dogs are everywhere on the island – they aren’t strays. They are well fed and most have collars, they just ‘free roam’ during the day! They are all very friendly and just liked to hang out with us on the terrace. If you are nervous around dogs, just have this in mind when visiting the island.
In regards to location, it was a 12 min walk to the local supermarket (called Henua Market) which was well-stocked (prices are like UK prices). Eating out on the island can be quite expensive so we opted to cook most of our own dinners - the hostal has the most well-equipped kitchen we’ve ever seen at a hostal! It had everything we wanted, and plenty of equipment we’d never need but were happy to see (including a lemon squeezer and garlic press!). There were plenty of free condiments to use for seasoning etc. Each room has a shelf reserved within the fridge so you had guaranteed fridge space for your cool items. The tap water is drinkable but has a slight salty taste to it so we opted to buy bottle water instead.
The hostal is about a 20 min walk to the ‘middle of the town’ aka the football pitch, and about another 10 mins from there to ‘Tahai’ for sunset. There’s not many pavements or street lights, but we always felt safe walking around even after dark (we brought a little torch wish us). The island is quite active in the evening with people out and about enjoying the cooler weather. The hostal is in quiet area though so we always slept well!
We spent 5 nights here and loved every moment of it. Having 5 full days meant we did a 2.5 day tour (booked through Rapa Nui Dream), and had 2.5 days to also go explore on our own: you’re limited on where you can go without a guide but we found there were plenty of nice walks you can do without support (Patricio can explain these to you). A particular favourite of ours was along the coast - if you continue past past ‘Tahai’, you reach ‘Hanga Kio’e’ which has an impressive beautifully restored moai set along a lovely cliff edge.
All in all, we 100% recommend Hostal Tojika. When Patricio dropped us off at the airport, I had a little cry – we had booked Easter Island as a ‘chilled’ ending to our month travelling around Chile and yet it easily became one of the highlights for us! We knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but we didn’t have any expectations for this segment of the trip. Honestly though, we loved every single moment of our stay here! The island is remarkable with such a lovely laid-back atmosphere and fascinating history. The hostal was the perfect base to explore the island and offered a wonderful place to just chillout in during the evenings – drink in hand – to enjoy the sunset views across the water.

Great location at a great price!
Jordan! Just a magical place! Don't be intimidated by the word hostel - in addition to the shared room, there are private rooms with their own bathroom and beautiful ocean views!
At the airport we were met by friendly Patricio - he hung us wreaths of flowers - this is how the adjoining on Rapa Nui are greeted) Patricio immediately drove us around the city, showed us where what is and then brought us to the hotel (by the way, it is only half a kilometer from the airport).
My sister and I booked a separate two-bedroom cabana with a living room, self-catering and a panoramic window directly from the bedroom to the huge waves. Very beautiful bar made of a single piece of wood, lots of dishes for cooking, and in the kitchen in the common area there are always fresh fruit and vegetables. Jimena's wonderful manager helped us book our tour and dinner immediately and kept buying us delicious bananas.
Boars are located on the ocean and in the evening we sat on the terrace, drinking wine and enjoying the noise of the waves. The only thing is, there are a lot of cucaraches on the island who are not shy, running everywhere-- on the ground and on the walls)
Nearby there is a volcano, which can be reached slowly on foot in 1.5 hours, it is low and the road is very good, you can take a moped or ATV if there is no car.
I'd like to thank Patricio and Jimena for their hospitality and post photos of them together, but unfortunately there are none left, because on my return to Buenos Aires, my phone was stolen - we relaxed too much and let our guard down on the quiet and calm Easter Island)

Hard to find a better place if you want to stay just in front of the Pacifici from your own terrace!
What a great place! I have stayed in the bungalow with a bedroom and a separate living room just for me. Everything was available in the kitchen: you can live here without any lack! Nice bedroom and a good bathroom. Wifi is also OK but the view is so marvellous from your private terrace just in front of the Pacific. You can stay hours just watching the huge waves and the fishermen going to the neighbouring harbour. It is a very quiet place a little bit apart of Hanga Roa, far from the trafic and night life but that was my goal.
Very friendly staff (Mariana, Jimena) and a friendly welcome with a flower collar at the airport. Drive you again at the airport for a sad return...Many helps and you can even buy your drinking water without going to the city. Everything possible by feet.
I will be back HERE with wife and kids!

Rapa Nui Holidays
The location and the view are the best. The hostel is a 20-minute walk from the village center and has a beautiful sea view.You can sleep listening to the sound of the waves.
Patricio welcomed us at the airport with flower crown and explained everything about the island and the tours. Excellent service.
The hostel does not provide breakfast but there is a large and well equipped kitchen for cooking.
Highly recommended, especially for the privileged view it has.

Comfortable cabins facing the sea
The cabins are small but comfortable. They are located on the oceanfront and offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. Please note that the towels are changed every 4 days and that during our stay, 1 week, I did not observe that the cleaning was done. They offer breakfast included, but it is only the facilities and cooking utensils, as well as the place to sit and have breakfast; you have to buy the food and prepare it yourself, which was an unpleasant surprise. Mineral water is charged at $2000 per liter and a half, at first it was free but then they put a lock on the bottle. I'd come back anyway.
