Such a lovely hotel!
Some reviewers have said that the hotel is dated but as it is less than twenty five years since construction how can this be?
Quaint is a word I would prefer, charming being another.
We were welcomed warmly on our arrival (though there was a little confusion on whether we could get a drink after travelling from Dubrovnik as the receptionist declared that the hotel didn’t have a bar) and having dropped our bags off and freshened up in our room we decided to explore the hotel before ordering a taxi in search of food and ‘water’.
To our left as we exited the was the main lobby and to our right the doors to the restaurant so we decided to head into the unknown.
On entering the dining room (which is quite grand and the tables are always set in case a guest in in search of a meal) and beyond that we could see a huge pagoda in the garden with a sole guest quietly reading a book and enjoying a glass of wine.
This cheered us up and within seconds a waiter had arrived and having shown us to a table had gone off to prepare our order (G’n’T for Mrs Grum and a large local beer for me.
We were told that we could dine whenever we wanted so retreated to our room to shower and change and returned to the restaurant around seven thirty (we were the only ones there…).
Whilst taking our wine order (my wife chose a delightful local white) the ‘waiter’ (Jaco, not Jacob!) explained that he was the grandson of the hotel’s founder (his grandmother had opened a cafe on the sight in 1978) and many of the people working there were members of the family.
The food was excellent and plentiful and having had our fill retired for the night.
The following morning was overcast so having had breakfast (continental but all freshly prepared) we went out for the day.
On our return we ate once again in the restaurant alone which is when Jaco explained that, as that weekend was a national holiday, most of his local customers were away at their second homes by the sea or in the hills and that normally the restaurant was usually filled by them. (I did get a feeling that the hotel was probably busier during the week with travelling business guests).
So, Pros and Cons:
Pros
Wonderful location.
Attentive staff.
Ask for the local gin (I’m not a gin fan but Mrs G asked me to try it and it really is good.
Cons
The restaurant can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for and we were certainly happy to pay the bill.
It turned out that the hotel does have a fully functioning bar but they don’t open it in case the noise upsets the guests in the rooms above. ❤️
Would we stay here again?
Very definitely!
Hvala Hotel AS!

The hotel is quite far for the city center and located in dead area.
The staff members are nice and helpful.
In my opinion, this hotel is far to be 4 stars hotel.
