Gorgeous ocean view and beautiful resort
Hosteria Mandala is a true gem in the Puerto López area, offering stunning unobstructed front-row views of the Pacific Ocean. The recently renovated pool and hot tub, along with a new game room and bar currently under construction, add to the appeal. The staff’s genuine commitment to providing an unforgettable stay makes the value unbeatable. For a five-night stay in the top room of the tower—breakfast included, plus drinks, one dinner for two, and multiple sodas, beers, and cocktails daily—our total was just $550.
The location is excellent: the downtown beach strip is within walking distance to the south, featuring many restaurants and convenience stores, tour offices, and shops. To the north, 1.5 miles of beach provide a perfect spot for relaxing morning, noon, or evening strolls. The hotel offers beach chairs, board games, bodyboards, and endless bird watching opportunities.
The second floor is a charming, underutilized space featuring books to borrow, musical instruments to play, and a beautiful cactus garden—ideal for entertainment and group gatherings.
We stayed in the best room of the resort, which was spacious and comfortable with an unbeatable ocean view. However, one downside was the loud noise from the hot tub pump, which sometimes drowned out the peaceful sound of ocean waves on our deck.
Hosteria Mandala, with its unique artwork, architectural charm, and breathtaking ocean views, is a true masterpiece along Ecuador’s Pacific coast. We could not have asked for a better stay at such a reasonable price.
As a seasoned traveler with hotel experience, I offer a few constructive suggestions—though these are minor, low-cost enhancements that would significantly elevate the guest experience and distinguish Mandala even further from competitors:
- As an eco-lodge, more water refill stations are essential across the property to reduce single-use plastic bottle waste. Plastic debris is already visible on the beach, so this would be a vital step toward protecting marine life, including turtles.
- Upgrading toiletries to include body lotion would enhance the sense of luxury.
- The room had a full kitchen but lacked glasses or cups; adding these small essentials would improve convenience.
- Offering washcloths would also add comfort, especially for those used to them.
- The room did not have a closet or dedicated space to hang jackets, dressier clothes, wet swimsuits, or beach towels—adding such storage would improve functionality.
- The restaurant’s menu is quite basic. Breakfast, included in the stay, offers three sufficient options (fruit, eggs, toast, and yogurt with fruit), but lunch and dinner menus lack creativity and specialization. For example, the grilled chicken was dry and overcooked.
Despite these points, Hosteria Mandala remains an amazing place. Its combination of location, value, and charm makes it highly recommendable, and I would gladly return on future trips.

Beautiful place in the process of some renovations.
This place is a very beautiful location out on the edge of town so you can easily skip the noise of town. There’s a beautiful pool on site that is heated. Surprisingly, this part of the coast can be cool in October/November. Likely you’ll wake up to birds singing as they maintain a fair amount of vegetation on site. We didn’t eat here other than the breakfast that was included. Not a lot of options for breakfast, and you might be hungry a couple of hours afterwards. The service was decent and our stay was uneventful, which what you want. The big question is, would I stay again? And that’s a definite yes.

Cabaña Pulpo was what we needed at fair rates.
Very nice location, friendly and staff, quite quiet place but of center but close enough. new owners since 3 month. So there is some wirk going on. New Pool openend yesterday! Breakfast was included and fast & good. Dinner was OK but there are better places nearby.

A unique and special hosteria
Hosteria Mandala offers very charming accommodations. Located at the far north end of the malecon, which is much quieter, they have a variety of private cabins nestled in a tropical garden setting, each one with its own unique path through the lush landscape. Rooms are comfy and clean. Breakfast is included in the cost. The staff was consistently helpful and eager to please. Of particular commendation is Nicholas, who just graduated from university and speaks some English. Most importantly, he made us feel very welcome, making sure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.

Hostería Mándala, awesome visit!!
The best lodge in Puerto Lopez Manabi. The infrastructure is exquisite, almost like staying in the Amazon, with the beach right in front of you. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional. One of the best places to visit with friends and family in Manabi, Ecuador.
