Recommended for a stay in Quito
The hotel has good amenities including a boutique and an excellent rooftop bar with views across the city, a great spot to relax in during day or night. The bartenders, especially Luis, are very efficient and like most members of staff speak very good English. They have a wide selection of beverages and an extensive food menu, either a full dinner menu that does great Ecuadorean dishes, or a bar snacks menu if you want a lighter meal. We spent all our evenings and some days enjoying the chance to watch Quito go by. The only slight criticism I would make is that on a couple of occasions dishes we wished to order were not available and we had to choose something else. There are water dispensers on the ground floor and a small lift for bags and those who find stairs an issue. Reception staff are friendly and approachable and there is always security present. We were told by a local guide that the neighbourhood is safe during the day, and it seemed to be as we would walk back from the old city about ten minutes away, but she warned us to be careful after dark. The local streets contain grocery stores, pharmacies, bakeries and other shops if you need anything. Of course, the hotel is full of art works, some available for sale, and there is information on the works and artists.
Breakfast is served in the inner courtyard, a bright and pleasant area that we also sat in one afternoon and read. There was no buffet, we were given cereal, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, cold meats, bread, pastries and eggs made to order. Juice, coffee and tea were also made to our requests. Service was very good and attentive. The courtyard tends to echo, so if you are light sleeper and wish for an early night or late get up, this is something to bear in mind as people eating and conversing below can be amplified in terms of noise. You also hear people walking past the rooms sometimes but It did not disturb us, and we found the Mama Cuchara a very relaxing place to start our adventures in Ecuador and I would recommend it as place to base yourself in the Quito.

A Classy Boutique Stay in Quito’s Historic Heart
My room was on the smaller side, but well appointed with everything you need — a supremely comfortable bed, strong WiFi, international TV channels, and a generous bathroom with a large walk-in shower. A lovely touch is the complimentary selection of local Ecuadorian snacks left in the room — a small detail that speaks to the hotel’s attention to hospitality. Breakfast offers a solid spread of both hot and cold dishes to set you up for a day of exploring.
The rooftop bar and restaurant is one of the hotel’s standout features — the views across Quito are spectacular, particularly as the sun sets over the city’s colonial rooftops and the Andes beyond. Staff across the board are friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful — a point consistently echoed in other recent reviews. Worth noting that the hotel sits slightly south of the main historic centre, so it’s a bit far to walk to the key sights — but taxis are inexpensive and readily available.
For culturally minded travellers looking for a distinctive, elegant base in Quito, Mama Cuchara delivers in style. A really classy place to stay.

Thank you for sharing your encouraging feedback through TripAdvisor!
We are flattered by your review, your attention and appreciation of detail are second to none. As a company that values art, history, design and culture our galleries are inherent, the presentation of Ecuadorian cuisine we also consider an art, and as you noticed the rooms are designed to maximize comfort and convenience within a boutique patrimonial property.
Hitting on another company value, consistent excellence, it is very gracious of you to reiterate the friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful service provided. The mission of Art Hotels Ecuador is to elevate the status of hospitality services in Ecuador and this recognition shows that the trainings and tools we have developed are effective.
The team at Hotel Mama Cuchara looks forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back for a longer stay.
Thanks again!
Warm regards,
