Your twins were also pleasure and so well behaved. It is hard not to spoil them. We sincerely to see you all again and watch them grow up.

Sadly not for us
Firstly we were the only guests staying, which was lovely in the daytime but at night, once Mere had gone home for the day we felt very isolated. There were drunks coming home from the bar opposite shouting, and our door didn’t lock properly.
There were places nearby to eat, but not many and if they’re shut you can very easily get quite stuck.
But the real issue came when we discovered a rat under the fridge, chewing on a discarded food packet from previous guests. We chased it out and shut all the slats, but it either came back again on there were more of them, running around our room all night.
We didn’t sleep at all, which after jet lag and an early start to go snorkelling, and the heat, left us all round feeling in a really bad way.
We decided to leave and go elsewhere and were not offered an apology or a refund. We stayed somewhere cheaper, with aircon, a restaurant, and felt much safer.
As a suggestion I think there needs to be clearer signs about leaving ANY food out at all.

I wish I could deny your complaints. But, It was a perfect storm of circumstances. Rest assured we were doing everything humanly possible to resolve the inconveniences you experienced while you were here. Sadly, try as we might they couldn't be resolved in a few days' time. They are all resolved now.
I appreciate your suggestions for a large container to store dry goods for food items that guests don't want to put in the ample sized refrigerators that are provided. We do NOT want to encourage rodents.
FYI concerning refunds. If a guest books through an Online Travel Agent, it is nearly impossible to get a refund. There is a no cancellation policy. Most importantly the hotelier has no control over their banking systems. The OTA takes their commission and pays at a later date for the reservation. Direct bookings have direct access to refunds and free upgrades. That is not to say you could not have fought it out with your OTA to see if there would be a possibility of a refund at the time. I fear 4 months later would be too long. It needs to be done at the time. That is a nice to know.
I am glad you found an alternative accommodation so you could enjoy the rest of your stay on the beautiful island of Taveuni.

The food is excellent with views of the sunset and the ocean. Very easy access to the beach where you can snorkel, grab a coffee or some more food.
Recommend using their local knowledge to book excursions such as scuba diving or trips around the island.
Look forward to returning one day!

Best Massage on Taveuni island ... and beyond!
Both my husband and I received massages from Mere on our final full day. Wow! What an unforgettable highlight of my experiences on Taveuni island. I've received massages all over the world by masseuses and massage therapists and I consider what Mere offers as a divine gift of Intuitive healing bodywork.
Mere set a beautiful and fragrant bowl of fresh flowers below me, and from the first moment until the last she was completely present, allowing her inner guidance to create the masterpiece of her perfectly orchestrated flow of touch. She applied the perfect pressure to points on my head as a trained practitioner of acupressure would do, massaged inside of my collarbone, releasing stuck energy from old traumas stored there and freed my shoulders and upper back from the energy I pick up and carry from the spiritual work I do. My husband's massage was different from mine and unique to his needs. We met at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, Ca, USA - known for their massage and we both agree that Mere's massage therapy is top world-class!
I feel honored to have experienced Mere's mastery in the art of intuitive healing touch. And, highly recommend a stay at Makaira to experience it for yourself.

The staff here are absolutely the BEST, My husband and I stayed here for 5 days and let me just say that it was Paradise @
The Bures were very clean, very attentive staff and so friendly and welcoming.
Mary and Sue were so great, I only was able to meet Roberta for a few minutes but also so friendly.
If you ever have the chance to visit them please do, you will not want to leave.

The staff is amazing, and we all work as a supportive 2nd family. Aside from doing their jobs well, they have an uncanny ability to modulate according to the guests' needs of either wanting privacy or being interactive.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope you will come back and visit us again.
