A bit of luxury

Beautiful hotel, unfortunately we were running so late that we couldn't use the spa area. But the room in the main building was beautiful; in addition to plenty of space, shower gels, and style, it also had a coffee machine, which I unfortunately did not use. The service, the ambiance, and the food were also very good. Even in summer, you could already go for walks outside, watch reindeer, or swim in the lake.

Charming and comfortable in Lapland

I love this hotel, my second stay and will stay again. Admittedly I do choose the deluxe suite with sauna but it is totally worth it especially as I stay off season. Not it’s not an all frills 5 star experience but it is as close as you get in Lapland. The beds are fantastic, the town is delightful and the staff are sweet.
Just don’t come with super high luxury expectations- no room service etc but it’s the best in town and in room sauna and lovely ambience meant I fully reset on a quiet weekend away from work. Probably very expensive in peak season but a bargain off season:

Generally a good hotel, well located for accessing Levi and the slopes.
The 'premium' breakfast was good, although not amazing, and the spa/pool complex was a nice bonus, although we only made use of it once.
Staff were friendly and helpful, and the on-site restaurants (specifically the pizza one) were excellent.
Unfortunately we experienced noisy guests in the rooms on both sides of us, which we had to complain about.
As for the family room we had, it was bright and clean, although the steep stairs to the mezzanine were treacherous, and the bathroom layout could have been better.
All in all, we had a good stay that was marred by thoughtless guests in other rooms.

Great space, but too overloaded with kids obviously for Santa related activities. Wouldn’t recommend for a ski stay, but Levi’s skiing facility’s are amazing.

Disappointing

Essentially known for its skiing facilities, the town of Levi was the next halt in our trip through Finland. Here we stayed at the Design hotel, Levi.. The hotel is about a 20 to 25 minutes drive from Kittila Airport. Our entry was not very promising, in so far that there was no bell boy or door person to help us with the luggage. The luggage has to be transported by the guests themselves to a fairly large lobby.
The reception area has the faint feeling of a counter at Starbucks, given that there are multiple counters with a coffee machine in the background and some snacks on one side of the counter.
Off to one side, there is a solitary counter, which says Design Hotel, which is where our check in formalities were completed. Check in itself was fairly smooth and the explanations to the hotel, the adjacent spa and the restaurants in the hotel, were delivered concisely, but clearly.
Our room was the corner room on the 2nd level. Fortunately, we did not have to lug our luggage ourselves, the lady at the counter offering to bring it up to our room. The lights in the corridor seemed to work on sensors, though there were occasions when they didn’t go on However, there is sufficient illumination from spotlights that highlight room numbers that are etched on the floor.
The room was adequate At 25 sqm, almost one fourth of the room is taken over by a bathroom. While the furnishings were reasonably modern, there was a paucity in the quantity of amenities. One bottle of a dual purpose hand and body wash had to do double duty both in the wash basin and in the shower. The shower stall was an open cubicle that wet the entire bathroom if someone had a bath. There was precious little space to hang clothes or towels.
The room had 2 narrow single beds and a couch that faced them. There was no cupboard or other form of storage. A mantelpiece that doubled as a top for a Nespresso machine and supplies of tea and coffee enclosed an empty minibar and a safe. A small corner provided a rod for a few hangers. Housekeeping was adequate and helped keep the room looking spic and span.
The beds were quite comfortable. With hardly any space to keep and open suitcases, one had to resort to using the neighbouring sofa for unpacking suitcases
The hotel boasts of 3 restaurants in house. These include a Pizzeria and a fine dine restaurant. We had Pizza the afternoon, which was quite delicious. Breakfast is divided into 2 sections, the regular and a Premium dining. For the premium dining area, a time slot is provided, so as to discourage over crowding. There was not enough signage and we ended up having breakfast in the general area the first morning. The spread was generous, with a decided leaning predilection to the carnivores.
The second day we discovered the Premium section. Here, one could order off a menu. I did order the Pancakes which were quite delicious. The self service section here was decidedly more spartan in comparison to the general area.
The working of the reception area often resembled a post office or bank. One has to generate a token number, and wait ones turn before meeting with desk clerk. While I am sure that this may help streamline the process of inquiry, it felt little weird. However, on the two occasions that I had to approach the staff I could do so directly, since they were free.
To reach the spa, one had to take a 3 to 4 minute walk to a building that houses a Burger King. The same building also houses a Gym - the services for which one has to pay. Guests wishing to use the spa facilities, were provided with lockers and a towel.
The hotel is at the entrance of the town of Levi. The ski slopes are a bare 5 minutes away and almost all facilities could be reached in a walking radius of 10 minutes. There are decent pubs and restaurants in walking distance to the hotel.
During check out we were assisted with our luggage. All in all, I would rate our stay here with mixed feelings. i was quite happy with the general cleanliness of the place and the cheerfulness of the staff. However, I felt a little disappointed with the in room amenities and the complete absence of storage facilities.
