Beautiful Chateau to stay in with a really lovely clean room for our family of 4 to stay in. Kids loved seeing the fish swimming in the castle moat. There were also donkeys, chickens and geese at the back. Games room on the tip floor with table football, pool and darts. Breakfast was included as continental and had a choice of breads, pastries, yoghurts, crepes and cereals with jams, honey and Nutella plus cheese and meats. Would highly recommend a stay here

Le Château D'Aubry - A magical end

On the way to the French Atlantic coast we like to stop overnight in Valenciennes.
This time we chose the Château D'Aubry because it is close to the city with numerous restaurants and not far from the motorway. The origins of the moated castle, which is surrounded by a well-kept English park, go back to the 12th century.
Today, the stylishly renovated rooms of the small castle house a romantic hotel. It is a popular place for weddings and family celebrations.
The free, screened parking spaces on the hotel grounds are very practical.
The historic building combines castle romance with modern hotel comfort. The large beds offer excellent comfort and the high windows allow you to enjoy a beautiful view of the castle pond and the park.
The nights are exceptionally quiet - a relief for city dwellers like us.
On the ground floor there are various party and conference rooms as well as the breakfast room with a summer terrace. The buffet breakfast is good by French standards - it seemed to us to be at least on a par with the chain hotels on the motorway near Valenciennes.
The only limitation to the otherwise entirely positive hotel experience: With the exception of one single room on the ground floor, the rooms and suites are on the first floor, which can only be reached via a steep curved staircase. This is a challenge for older people with walking difficulties.
Positive: The friendly service staff are happy to help with luggage transport to the room.
The overnight stay at the Châtau D'Aubry combined with a very nice dinner in a brasserie in Valenciennes was a perfect start to our trip to Normandy.

Charming historic building. Bed was new and very comfy. Shower was excellent. Decor is a bit worn, but everything very charming.

Very very disappointed

I was very very disappointed. The common areas and the exterior of the Château are very beautiful. But as soon as you enter the room it’s a big disappointment. Unable to close my door because the screw is coming out. So I have to put it back. I inform the receptionist who tells me that he will go and see. When I stay in the evening I have the same problem. A foul smell in the bathroom. I'm looking for where it's coming from and the smell is coming from the shower. So I see the condition of the siphon and the shower curtain (see photos). Not to mention the wall socket which comes off the wall (see photo). And in the toilet every time you flush the toilet the rim comes off or stays in my hand (see photo). Paying €90 per night in a 3 star hotel you expect better.

I wished my stay would have been longer that just one night. The hotel is set in a beautiful château surrounded by a park with a little lake. I was given a quiet room (equipped with a water kettle, big bonus), with a nice view across the hotel grounds, and I had a good night's sleep.
Staff was very friendly and helpful too.
I can very much recommend this place!
