An exceptional place
Charming welcome from Jean-Claude and Moha, their constant desire to make the stay perfect.
Charm of the place, calm, relaxing, large rooms, attention to detail.
Charm of Moha's breakfasts, in the garden or in the majestic dining room.
Charming common areas, well-maintained swimming pool, garden furniture, relaxation lounge, snack room.
is this the perfect place then? If not, it's close!
Thank you Jean-Claude, Thank you Moha You put your heart into it, and it shows.

Ludicrous behaviour from the proprietors!
BUT…..
Our experience was completely undermined and spoiled by the attitude the owners give off that they are watching you and criticising you. Our daughters (pre-teen) were also kind of freaked out by the owners telling them that they were "just the other side of the door". During the first day of our stay we received an email telling us our room was “too messy” and that “they would speak to us about it when we got back”. When we got back we also found that a half bottle of wine that we had preserved from lunch (and had NOT been drinking in the room) and been taken away - apparently due to the “No Alcohol in rooms” policy which other reviewers have mentioned which we were equally unaware of prior to arrival.
I see from previous posts that we can expect a vigorous defence from the owners so I look forward to reading that - but all I would ask them to consider is - we came with an open mind and with no reason to find fault, and through your actions you spoiled our stay in your establishment.
We sent an email to the proprieters with some feedback of why we were disappointed - and if we had received anything back approaching a constructive or reflective response, we would not be posting this - but what we got back was further blaming, criticism and absolutely no acknowledgement that anything could possibly be wrong.
So, approach with caution. Be clear that the owners expect you to dance to their tune (but without telling you what the tune is until you arrive....) and will treat you all like naughty children if you don't.

As I am a little be naive, I hope this experience you lived at Clos Chavigny will improve your attitude in other B&B in the future. I leave at Trip advisor disposal pictures of the rooms after one night stay....No more comments would be necessary !!

Good morning
I appreciate your last sentence about the respect we do expect from paying guests . The reverse is also a must vis a vis the guests provided they behave correctly in a house which is not their private one..A must is the politeness of every member of the family including children etc ..The last example I have in mind is your silent departure from Chavigny, on Wednesday without saying goodbye . We had prepared your breakfast and left on the table the bottle of wine" stolen" the day before..Imagine our surprise !!!...( Stolen is not very appropriate, by the way but you used it). The email announcing your early departure was read after nine AM as we do every day for all mailing..
.I must tell you that it's the first time I see such a disorder in rooms, they look like a battlefield and I am certainly far from reality. Your past experience in room cleaning in a British hotel is not relevant , we are in France and Chavigny is a private house where everything is not permitted..It's showing a lack of respect to your hosts to offer such a miserable image just after one night stay !!!!!. I cannot imagine after 2 or 3 nights !!!!; how can we live in such untidy places. It remains a mystery for the cleaning lady and myself as well. When I was in England I have attended many hotels and I have always correctly handled my room as My parents showed me when i was a teenager
Concerning your daughters, I have had a bad impression at the arrival , (not a word) and when they visited their room, You were present and have certainly remarked. I was embarrassed about their attitude ? I must tell you I would have appreciated you addressing some comments to them....Politeness does not seem to be a priority especially for the oldest one..
...
.Personally I would have prefered as I have proposed in my last email we had an "explanation" before you leave instead of this correspondence..
I am not waiting for any response , I just want to forget this bad experience.

What a find!
The decor is exquisite and while it really is like stepping back in time, it’s fabulously comfortable. The pool and gardens are a particular attraction!
Jean Claude and Moha suggested a trip to the local castle where a tango spectacular was being held on our first night. Lit by 1000 candles, it was a wonderful evening.
Breakfast was on the terrace and was enough to keep us going all day, with croissants and hard boiled eggs, freshly baked bread and local goats cheese!

Thank you for this wonderful review on Trip Advisor.
We have had many compliments from these evenings offered by the Chateau de l'Islette as well as the wonderful night walks of the Abbey of Fontevraud.
During your next stay we will use your talents as food critics. Jean Claude and Moha

draconian & condescending and so disappointing.
Firstly, the house rules are draconian and easy to miss, (no mention on booking.com), so only on arrival one discovers drinking any alcohol or eating any food is banned in bedrooms or public areas including the garden. (I comprehend why glass near the pool). Given the significant distances to any hostelry (somewhat underestimated on bookings.com) we felt this unreasonable and impractical particularly as we had arrived by bicycle.
Our second and more significant comment is the manner in we were treated. Any slight query to the above rules, will leave one feeling watched suspiciously. The usual French response to questions “but of course” is taken to a new level of indignation! One might blame cultural differences, but it was more severe than that. We had a couple of conversations escalating beyond reason. I suspect they have bitten off more than they can chew or are bored with being in service. Having worked in 5* hotels and running our own accommodation I know how difficult but important it can be to ‘bite one’s lip’ and display humility.

Hospitality NO, smelly towels, no extra bottle of water. Just grabbing money and don't disturb them.
DISLIKED · Smelly towels (like a mop), noisy toilet, management very unfriendly, bad internet almost everywhere, no refill of water in the room (although mail correspondence before arrival mentioned 'it would be no problem'), very dark corridor to the rooms (due to shutters, lights are necessary, see photo), no tea/coffee facilities in the room (are tugged far away in the building), barking dog. Breakfast table was just a simple conference table, with only 4 rooms, this didn't match with the rest of the breakfast set up. No hospitality at all! Made reservations for 7 nights, but after an unfriendly discussion about 1 clean towel and a bottle of water, I was sent away (after 2 nights). Ofcourse the rest of my stay was cancelled and booked elsewhere. Still was charged for the full stay for 2 people, while my husband wasn't even there already (would arrive later on that week, due to work). Looked at Booking and saw all their rooms were fully booked!! Hospitality is no where to be found on this property. My compliments about their garden were neglected 'we don't need your compliments'.

I am sure that Helen Grundmeyer has not to be anxious about copyrights. The high degree of quality of her art pieces (writing and pictures) can be considered as a guarantee of non-copying.
I am convinced that what is excessive is always suspect and can have sometimes dangerous consequences.
I suggest that Trip advisor and others should conduct sometimes some complementary investigations before publishing. As a consequence, I am convinced this type of review would not appear on their sites.
