My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Le Chalet Zannier in Megève, and it was one of the most memorable hotel experiences either of us has ever had. This was our first big international trip together, which already made it meaningful, but the warmth, care, and extraordinary service from the Zannier team made it even more special. We travel frequently and have stayed in many five-star properties around the world—but the level of hospitality here went far beyond anything we’ve experienced.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. We were generously upgraded to a beautiful Junior Suite with a private terrace overlooking the mountains and a fireplace that created the most incredible atmosphere at night. Champagne and snacks were waiting in the room, a thoughtful welcome after travel.
Housekeeping was remarkable—every time we stepped out and returned, the room had somehow been perfectly refreshed. Evening turndown included rotating treats like chocolate chip cookies and macarons, a small but delightful touch.
The concierge service was truly outstanding. The team stayed in touch via text throughout our stay, helping with anything we needed at any time of day. They seamlessly coordinated skiing for us—including equipment and a wonderful private instructor who made my first time skiing feel safe and fun.
Afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the mountains, delicious breakfasts, and a private shuttle anywhere in town.

A Truly Exceptional Stay - Beyond Five Stars
Some of the highlights that made our stay so exceptional:
- A generous room upgrade upon arrival. The team immediately upgraded us to a Junior Suite, which was absolutely stunning—massive, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable. It had a private terrace overlooking the mountains and a fireplace, which created the most magical atmosphere at night. Champagne and snacks were waiting for us when we arrived.
- Impeccable housekeeping. I genuinely still don’t know how they did it. Every time we stepped out and came back, the room seemed to have been perfectly refreshed—beds straightened, everything spotless and reset. It felt almost magical how seamlessly they maintained the room without ever feeling intrusive.
- Thoughtful turndown treats every night. Each evening there was something different waiting for us—chocolate chip cookies one night, macarons another. It was such a small, but delightful detail that made returning to the room feel special every evening.
- Incredibly responsive concierge service via text. This was perhaps the most impressive part of the experience. The team kept in touch with us throughout our stay via text message, so we could ask for anything at any time of day. Whether it was a small request for the room or help coordinating plans, they responded immediately. It truly felt like having a private concierge dedicated to us the entire time.
- Seamless ski coordination. They handled the entire skiing setup for us, which made the experience incredibly easy—especially since it was my first time skiing. We were able to try on gear at the property, and everything was delivered and organized at the slopes for us.
- An incredible ski instructor recommendation. It was my first time skiing—and I was nervous about getting injured before a wedding we were attending later that week—and the concierge connected me with the most wonderful instructor for a four-hour private lesson. He was patient, encouraging, and focused on safety, which made me feel comfortable. By the end of the lesson I was able to ski down the larger bunny hill completely on my own—and I wasn’t even sore afterward.
- Daily tea time on the terrace overlooking the mountains. Every afternoon the hotel hosted tea time with gourmet desserts and tea, set on a beautiful terrace with breathtaking mountain views. The lemon meringue pie was unforgettable.
- Excellent dining. Breakfast each morning was a dream, and the hotel restaurant was the perfect place for our first dinner after arriving jet lagged—elegant and delicious.
- Private shuttle service anywhere in town. The hotel provided private shuttles that would take us anywhere we wanted in Megève, anytime, free of charge. One moment that really stuck with me: I accidentally left my gloves behind when rushing to my ski lesson because I was nervous, and the driver immediately turned the car around so I could grab them.
- A genuinely warm and kind staff. Everyone we met was gracious, friendly, and welcoming. By the time we left, it felt less like leaving a hotel and more like saying goodbye to friends—they even hugged us goodbye.
- Going above and beyond—even after our stay ended. We moved to an Airbnb after our stay, and when I accidentally blew a fuse and lost access to a hairdryer, the concierge still helped me. They called multiple salons and even a grocery store in town to find one for me and arranged for it to be held until I could pick it up. That level of care—even after we were no longer guests—says everything about the people who work there.
- We loved it so much we extended our stay. We had planned to move on sooner, but we ended up adding an extra night simply because we didn’t want to leave.
Le Chalet Zannier is a beautiful property—the setting, the rooms, the food and the mountain views are all exceptional—but what truly makes it unforgettable is the people. The team has created an environment that feels deeply personal, warm and thoughtful in a way that felt incredibly rare.

Cold mountain of a minimalist concept
At any rate, my partner and I decided to give Zannier another chance for our winter week in France, especially for the intimate boutique hotel feel of the property and despite many attractive 5 star hotel brands available in this classy French ski resort. After dropping a note to the CEO founder of the chain and in light of our sad experience at Sonoop, I was curtly advised as to how confident he was that we would of course be treated well as everywhere...(sic).
After active email exchanges with the property re. logistics and activities booking ahead of our stay , we were warmly greeted on check-in day by the Concierge/acting deputy manager Ileana (the main Leadership asset of that team) and were advised that we had been upgraded to a suite.
Of course, we were grateful for the gesture ...only coming to realize later that this room had some serious downsides (counter intuitive layout, noise from room upstairs etc..) while we also experienced a few shortcomings from this 5 star establishment which is not much less costly that most of its 5 star competition.
On the positive side, we were impressed by the one-on-one availability and attention that this 12 room resort staff is able and willing to provide.
However, when you come to step back about the entire stay, esp. as a world traveler who has experienced the best 5 stars standards in the world (from Mandarin Oriental, Oberoi, Four Seasons to Waldorf Astoria or Aman…), you realize that Zannier leaves more the memory of a charmless concept store for books than the warmth and soul of a true home: unlike what you feel, especially in India or Asia where the people who work in hospitality give all their heart beyond the guidelines décor, materials, menus or procedures from Corporate guidance: they will always bend the rules or adapt to special requests or circumstances to deliver maximum satisfaction to their guests, listening to your desire rather than explaining why it is the way it is or can’t be done.
And that’s exactly what Zannier doesn’t project nor deliver, neither in Namibia or France: it feels more like an overarching brainy concept or staged décor by a C-suite rather than an empowered staff to fully play their role in making the guest feel unmistakably welcomed and special. One would expect that more from a global Marriott group brand than a relatively small hospitality business like Zannier.
The “brain” at Zannier might be there but the heart is cold, dry or ungenerous: this explains the many missing links in each property we visited: the G.M. can’t change a book display or seating arrangement that would deviate from the central concept even if it makes more sense for the comfort and pampering of the guests for a wintery week…no wall art in the rooms, most basic toiletries/ no bath salts, standard crepes or waffles not even suggested on breakfast menu, no control of in-room thermostat by guest but remote control by Tech staff, no fireplace handling by guest even just to keep fire going for an hour, no heated floors in bathrooms as any winter resort had them now etc… Everything reminds you that you, as a guest, are not the heart of the concept but rather a disciple that has to conform to the cold design of what feels more like the personal taste & preference of a stunted minimalist.
For that fundamental reason, I will return to Megeve and book the opulent Four Seasons or charming Les Fermes de Marie where we felt immediately welcome for a tour, massage or a drink at the bar and felt that warm embrace from their staff at every step (incl. from Founder’s daughter & CEO, Marie Sibuet who we randomly met and who could have not been more accessible, hospitable and humble).
I advise you to do the same if you care about feeling pampered and truly valued as a guest, esp. at a $1 500/nightly rate.

An exceptional experience at the highest level at Chalet Zannier
We have been deeply pampered, with sincere attention and natural elegance that make all the difference.
Emilie, the Director, is undoubtedly the cornerstone of this place: vision, demand, caring and attention to detail. She embodies the soul of Chalet Zannier and directs it with remarkable talent.
But this excellence is above all the result of a real teamwork. Around Emilia, each employee contributes with professionalism, discretion and passion to create a harmonious and deeply human experience. There is a rare cohesion, pride and culture of service that raises the whole to an exceptional level.
An exceptional establishment where luxury is combined with authenticity and warmth.
We leave satisfied, with the feeling of having lived much more than a stay: a real parenthesis of perfection.

The soul of the Chalet is Zorhan
Besides, we never met the General Manager but whatever, Zorhan replaced him perfectly, knowing our habits and anticipating our desires.
Great congratulations also to the housekeeping team for its kindness and also its efficiency.
