The owner scares us away!

Let's make a short stop on a hike. Let's just ask the owner for some quick information, like "Are rooms available outside events?" For any answer, we received "you can see that I do not have time, you delay the progress of the work!", this after 5 to 10 minutes maximum!!! What a shame to be welcomed in such an enchanting place. But obviously we'll never set foot in it!

Nous sommes désolés que votre passage au Morimont vous ait laissé cette impression.
Nous souhaitons toutefois apporter quelques précisions importantes : le Morimont est une propriété privée - un lieu de vie et des activités dédiées à l’accueil de mariages, séminaires et événements privés. Le sentier de randonnée balisé passe autour du domaine et ne traverse pas le lieu. L’entrée de la propriété est par ailleurs signalée comme privée, et les visites se font uniquement sur rendez-vous.
Le jour de votre passage, des travaux étaient en cours dans la salle de réception et nos équipes étaient mobilisées sur le chantier. Dans ce contexte, l’arrivée de visiteurs non annoncés au cœur des espaces de préparation a pu créer une situation délicate, ce qui explique certainement une réponse perçue comme sèche. Ce n’était pas notre intention de vous accueillir de manière désagréable.
Nous comprenons que le cadre du lieu puisse donner envie de s’y arrêter, et nous apprécions l’intérêt porté au Morimont. Mais, comme dans tout lieu privé accueillant des événements, nous veillons aussi à préserver l’organisation du site, le travail des équipes et l’intimité des personnes vivant sur place.

Country hotel with shortcomings

This hotel is at the end of a potholed access road and is a converted farmhouse with steep stairs to the rooms on the upper floors. The rooms are variable with some better than others. Our bathing arrangement was a bath with a hand held nozzle. It was cold while we were there for a wedding and the manager was slow putting the heating on with many guests complaining. They seemed short-staffed with only one or two staff trying to cope with about 30 guests. The breakfast was OK. Wifi only seemed to work in the reception area. There is a lovely ruined castle a short walk away and other walks in the valley below. A lack of lighting down to the carpark below made negotiating the path difficult at night. Overall, the setting is great but further investment in facilities and people is needed to get this hotel to a 3 star standard.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad you appreciated the setting and nearby walks, as well as the charm of our historic building.
Regarding your comments: the staircase comes from the nearby medieval castle and dates back to the 15th century. While it may seem a bit steep, we consider it a remarkable piece of history and a unique feature of our hotel. The thick walls of the building mean that our central heating takes some time to warm the rooms, but each room is equipped with electric radiators for personalized comfort. Some rooms feature showers, others bathtubs, and all are carefully decorated to create a warm and authentic atmosphere.
At the time of your visit, we did not yet have fiber-optic internet, and the satellite connection did not allow full Wi-Fi coverage throughout the building. This has now been fully resolved. We are also actively working on improving the exterior lighting for easier access to the car park in the evening.
We appreciate your comments, as they help us continue to improve our facilities and service while maintaining the historical character and charm that our guests choose Le Morimont for.

Visit to the ruins of Chateau Morimont

We visited the ruins of the chateau as a family with 2 small children. The ruins were found after a short but pretty walk through the forest. They were interesting to see, the domed Cave, the largest of its kind in Alsace, was closed as it is breeding season for the resident bats. We could still see into it however. It is a pretty little castle with lots of nooks and crannies for the kids to explore, worth a visit if you are passing but wouldn't travel a long distance to see it.
We didn't call into the Auberge on site as it was closed on the day we visited, it looked very quaint.
