Room was nothing like what we booked — then they cancelled on us, staff refused to help

We booked and fully paid (non-refundable rate) for a Double Room with Private Bathroom for 2 nights through Booking.com. What we were actually given at check-in was completely different from our reservation: a shared, hostel-style bunk-bed room, with a strong unpleasant odor and air conditioning that didn't work at all, in the middle of a hot Paris summer. When we went to the front desk to ask for help, the staff member on duty was outright rude and refused to do anything to fix it. Left with no support from the hotel, we spent an entire exhausting day contacting Booking.com's customer service, explaining the situation and sending photos of the room. Then, that same evening, while we were still physically staying in the hotel, the hotel unilaterally cancelled our whole reservation and Booking.com informed us by email — no warning, no proper solution, just cancelled. We were left stressed, worn out from hours of calls, and had to book alternative accommodation ourselves at a significantly higher price just to make sure we weren't left without a room the next day. A genuinely disappointing and stressful experience, made worse by staff who simply didn't care.

The room is too small, the shower is bad, we had to constantly press the shower so that the water will come out, the floor drain leak that makes the nasty odor. We did not enjoy our stay.

Not what what advertised in photos.

This hotel doesn't look at all like the pictures advertised. We didn't have hot water for our 2 night stay and were promised it would be fixed. At 7.30pm we were advised that our only option was to change hotels which was a 40 minute metro ride away (no offer of transport). The whole place is run down and very disappointing for Paris.

Convenient, low cost, ok for a couple of nights

We stayed in a family room at the Montclair Hostel. 2 adults and 2 children. The room was divided which was nice for some separation and privacy. It was a basic room and basic bathroom.
We stayed in a room on the 5th floor, no lift and a spiral staircase. The positive was the room had a balcony which we could sit outside on and able to leave the doors open to allow air to come in.
It was very quiet. We didn’t have any trouble with noise. The beds were firm and not particularly comfortable. The double bed was 2 single beds put together but one mattress was definitely broken and needed replacing.
Location was very convenient for seeing Paris. Very close to metro and bus and lots of nice places to eat nearby. Close to sacre coeur.
I would recommend from a location perspective if you need somewhere cheap to stay in Paris.

Very, very negative experience

A disastrous place. The photos have NOTHING to do with reality. Besides that, the human quality is terrible; we had a big problem and they have gone a month without giving us an answer, and that was with 10 of us, I don't want to know what kind of attention they would give if 2 people were traveling, because they don't answer emails or the app, terrible. Don't hesitate, don't go
