The most amazing experience in Ushguli!

The best guesthouse in Ushguli, with the kindest hosts, that took care of our every need. From airport transfer directly to the village, to a great stay in their new building, amazing meals, horses to the Shkhara glacier (with Mamuka as our guide!), to suggestions about where to go in the village, and the return to Mestia.
Everything was so wonderful, so memorable, and after a few, it truly does feel like a dream.
Location is heavenly. The awesome power and beauty of nature surround you.
The huge mountains, the roaring river, and of course the majestic Shkhara.
The special towers some of which are 1,000 years old, and other ancient structures still standing, are all reminiscent of Middle Ages, and one cannot help but be swept back in time hundreds of years.
That’s the beauty of Ushguli, and our kind hosts enabled us to enjoy and absorb so much of it.
Highly recommended!
We will definitely return!

Great homestay in Ushguli

Staying at Guesthouse Gamarjoba was fantastic! The hosts were so friendly, so welcoming. Everything was extremely clean. The hostess (I never asked her name, sorry about that), was just so nice and she made some outstanding meals. Very tasty. The bed was comfortable, and the blankets were very warm. I would recommend Guesthouse Gamarjoba to anyone visiting Ushguli

Best Hosts Ever

I have no words to describe the wonderful hospitality of the guesthouse owners Temraz and Lela. The house is beautiful and very clean. Lela was preparing the most delicious breakfast and dinner, included in the accommodation price. Temraz also provided the most relaxing transfer from Ushguli to Mestia. He is also a good backgammon player, who it was a pleasure to play against. You can sit in the backyard, watching the sunset over Shkhara, 5201 meters high piek.
Thanks a lot, dear friends, we are all looking forward to visiting you again!

Very warm and welcoming family makes your stay very pleasant!

Ushguli in winter can be a rough place. Bathroom facilities are basic and heating in the bedroom was not ideal but with plenty of blankets it was not a problem at all. The location of the guesthouse is perfect for ski touring (and hiking in summer I guess). What makes this guesthouse so nice are its owners. They are so welcoming and friendly that you automatically feel at home. The brother of the owner lives there too and is an artist. Once you get used to him, he is a funny character.
Definitely worth the visit and one you won't soon forget!

Really welcoming and beautiful location

This was such a unique place to stay. The hostess (I can't recall her name now) doesn't speak English but has a very warm and welcoming way about her. Her daughter does speak English and helped me when I called to make reservations. When I arrived, I was shown my room. The bed was very comfy with lots of warm blankets. The room was very clean, although don't expect luxury in terms of furniture, etc. The bathroom was also very clean. The shower is just a showerhead that drains on to the floor, which I hate because it makes the bathroom so wet, but is common in that area of the world.
Shortly after I arrived, the hostess gave me tea and a piece of cake, which I ate on a bench outside looking out onto the mountains. The food was plentiful and fresh, although don't expect a lot of variety. Breakfast was yogurt and various types of bread, with and without cheese, and then cheese on its own. Dinner was the same, but with lots of good veggie-based salads and dishes. All the meals while I was there were vegetarian, which worked for me! I asked for a lunch to take with me on a hike, and was given a plastic bag to pack items from breakfast to take along. Again, nothing fancy, but it worked for me.
The location is quiet and is right by the path that goes away from town up to the glacier. If I were to do it again, I might hire a local guide with or without a horse to take me on the glacier hike - I got a bit lost pretty far out once the path crossed the river.
The guesthouse is at the very top of the town. Keep walking as far as you can get, and it's just on the right if the very old church is up the hill ahead of you. It has a fence with a gate and is set back from the road a bit.
