Great location in the Old Town

Location gets an A+. This hotel was just what we wanted for a Rhine River experience. The public rooms are Old Europe, taking you back 100 years. Very classic and fun. The bedroom is all new, designed as a Germain experience should be. The bathroom is all modern with the best shower I have experienced in a hotel. Our balcony was large with a nice view of the old town.

Get the bridal suite :)

Visited fur 2 nights in May- Bacharach was our stopping place on the Rhine and it was perfect. Comfortable room, very nice quality for the price, balcony with views were wonderful, fantastic breakfast. Great hiking right out your doorstep.

Family Trip to Europe

As part of our family vacation, we were looking forward to our stay at the Altkolnischer Hof hotel since it looked so charming on the website. Turns out our room was in a building across the street. The same hotel books rooms in the main building, plus two adjacent properties. The website should clearly explain when people book a room in the main building (charming hotel with the flowers and balconies shown in the pictures) versus rooms in the other two simpler buildings across the street managed by the same people. May as well have been an entirely different hotel. The room we got was in one of the buildings across the street, with no air conditioning. We had specifically booked this hotel since on the website it shows that all the rooms have AC. My advice, ask and confirm where your room is. If you want AC and want to be in the main building shown in the pictures, then ask and double/triple check that your room is in the main building.
The room we were given across the street was actually a small apartment. It was spacious and clean, but HOT. We got 4 fans total and opened the windows at night, but it was still quite hot, and we could not sleep very well.
Breakfast was not included, but you can add it for 15 euros/person. We did this one day and it was worth it. Good selection, good food and the restaurant atmosphere is great. The restaurant is in the main building, which again, is charming. That's where you want to be during your stay in Bacharach, in the main building.
Despite the hotel disappointment, it was a good location. Bacharach is a charming, tiny town. Word of advice, most places in town only take cash. Only a bakery took credit cards. The town is very small, there is one supermarket, and several restaurants, which were good options for dinner.
All and all, I would recommend the main hotel and would stay here again, but only if guaranteed a room in the main building. Our experience was that we booked a hotel but were given a room in a different hotel. Suggest that the hotel management adds pictures of ALL their buildings on their website and CLEARLY note the differences.

wonderful apartment in a picture-perfect setting

We walked from the train station on the cobblestones past shops to the reception in the 'old' hotel. A form had been sent for us to fill prior to arrival, but we were unable as it was all in Deutsch. That didn't cause a problem and at the reception we got all the info we needed for the apartment, just a little further down. Another beautiful old building but all modern inside (electrical/plumbing etc.) It was a very big space with full kitchen and a view to the street. On top of that, the terrace out back sat at the foot of vineyards and the old walls and had a great view of the castle. It was a very satisfying place to come home to and it's quiet at night so a bit of time in the room.
The bakery is just a bit back on the street if you don't want to make your own coffee,
and a grocery is just across the road for any items you might want. The little lane just before the apartment leads to a good italian restaurant. It is quiet enough and the windows shut out any sound. Full kitchen and big bed and bathroom...we were very pleased. The Rhine is just a short walk through one of the 'gates' and is entertaining to sit at the park side wine bar watching the boat and rail traffic. My wife rented a bike from just up the road and had a fun day riverside.

I would recommend this Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel! We stayed in the Sauvignon room and it was a charming Scandinavian style suite. The food was absolutely amazing for breakfast and dinner. Rich and robust flavors, hearty meals, and delicious beverages. You can really tell they take pride in their establishment. It was clean with good amenities. You could turn on the radiant heater in the room, which worked well or open the windows for a beautiful crisp cold night. Everything in the room was functional. Nothing was broken. And it looked newly renovated. I definitely would recommend. This area is gorgeous.
