Nice escape for the weekend!
The rooms are comfortable and clean, beds are great and there is enough space for your luggage. Breakfast is very good as well as the menu for diner. Good ambiance in the restaurant and friendly staff. We loved the food and the wine very much, so we decided to visit the restaurant both days!
We missed a good vibe in the bar in the afternoon: no staff to look after the guests, so to order an aperitif we had to search for somebody. In general I would suggest to make sure the bar is a more lively spot to go for a drink.
The hotel is located in the small center of the village Bad Laer, next to a lovely park and the forest. Perfect area for running, walking as well as for discovering the region.
You can easily park your car in front of the hotel (free).

Lovely Establishment
My room was Ok, clean and warm, typical European 3 Star hotel. It was slight larger than a colleague's room, but quite small compared to the corner room of another colleague which also had a small balcony. Luck of the draw in our case as the booking was made together for the same price. Hotel seems quite busy.
Breakfast provided was very good.
If using the restaurant for dinner, go for the #62 Galloway Fillet Steak, or #624, the bigger version. We had the steak two nights in a row. It was always tender, nicely cooked and tasty- best steak we've had in Germany in the past year.
Hotel service was a little inefficient, but extremely helpful and friendly, when they appeared.
Overall a very nice hotel and will definitely stay there again if in the area.

Second stay this year
The room was nice, but did felt stuffy and humid after a couple of days as the room has no air conditioning with the weather being rainy outside. We do missed not having any tea or coffee making facilities in our room. The large bed was in a timber frame and my wife regularly bumped her knees against the solid corners a couple times a day!!
The bathroom appeared newly renovated and was very clean and bright.
Carparking spaces in the infront of the hotel were small and a little tight, but they have a 2nd carpark on the lake side of the hotel.
Breakfast choices were somewhat limited on this visit compared to my memory of the previous stay, even the fruit bowl was from the canned variety. The fresh plums and apples appeared to be days old.
Dinner at the restaurant was very, very good, although service was a little slow as the restaurant is always busy around 6:30 to 8:00pm. Quality of the food and menu choices were very good and quite good value. We had the fillet steak, the pork medallions and salmon during the stay and all were excellent.
