Highly recommended ...

Parking right at the door. Friendly reception. Renovated new rooms and bathrooms equipped with the latest technology. We were on the 15th floor. with a magnificent view over Gelsenkirchen. Breakfast was delicious and well attended by the hotel staff.
Friendly farewell. We are pleased that there is finally such a hotel in Gelsenkirchen (our old home).

Poor Service on arrival in terms of room allocation.

At check-in on Friday 24.10 when we arrived at about 13:00h we were directed to 15:00h which would be perfectly fine. We deposited the suitcases and came back around 3:15 p.m. We were told the rooms were still occupied because two sports teams with attachments still occupy them. We should check in at night when we get back from the stadium and the city. I find this an absolute NoGo for guests upon arrival. You want to set up in the room and freshen up.
The Service in the restaurant at breakfast and the rooms was absolutely fine.
The bar could have closed at 0:00 and not already at 11:00 p.m. sharp.

Services do not meet the standard and price

Clean rooms, but on arrival we learned that the air conditioning is not yet in operation and the restaurant is closed due to staff shortages until February 2026. In the bar we were offered only a Currywurst, but we preferred to do without. For a house of this class actually a no go. After all, we were waived on demand because of these two shortcomings the cost of breakfast and parking. That was positive again.

Es tut uns leid zu hören, dass Ihr Aufenthalt bei uns nicht ganz Ihren Erwartungen entsprochen hat. Es ist richtig, dass unsere Klimaanlagen wegen Renovierungsarbeiten zurzeit nicht verfügbar sind, wir entschuldigen uns für die Unannehmlichkeiten.
Die Schließung unseres Restaurants ist in der Tat unglücklich. Wir arbeiten daran, so schnell wie möglich eine Lösung zu finden. Hier handelt es sich jedoch lediglich um einen kurzen Zeitraum, in ein paar Wochen haben wir die Restauration dann wieder mit den vollen Speisenangebot geöffnet.
Wir hoffen, dass wir trotz der genannten Punkte bald wieder die Gelegenheit haben, Sie in unserem PLAZA Hotel Gelsenkirchen begrüßen zu dürfen.

Nice upper floor room with great views from balcony.
Arriving at 1pm and being asked to pay 25E to get the room immediately is a questionable customer service attitude. Outside room like balcony need a makeover.

The hotel ignored my repeated messages as well as all messages and phone calls from Expedia. Even after I returned home, they still ignored both me and Expedia! DO NOT patronize this hotel. Even Expedia couldn’t get a response from them. They should be removed from Expedias properties!
