Our hotel is located in beautiful Oberau, in the Zugspitzland, in the middle of the Loisachtal. Excellent hiking trails and cycle paths are easily accessible from our family-run hotel.

Headed to the Passion Play

Stayed at the village of Oberau at the Hotel Alpenhof before attending the Passion Play in nearby Oberramergau. Delightful village. Delightful night life. Unique hotel. Stayed there with friends and had a grand time. Would stay there again. Good dining nearby, as well. Particularly the La Caprese.

Old and very old. But clean!

The hotel has apparently placed its business case entirely on the accommodation of travelers. That was fine for that. I would call it that. There is a massive investment backlog in the hotel. Everything is old, but at least everything was really clean. There is no breakfast and also otherwise you can actually only stay overnight. We did not even begin to notice the feeling that you want to do everything for your guests in terms of Service and coziness. So, for transit to stay ok, vacation is not spent here.

Once and NEVER again!

This was the worst hotel I've ever been to. We were passing through and spontaneously stopped here.
Parking is sometimes difficult, after a long search we found a parking space in the adjacent residential area.
Allegedly non-smoking hotel, at the entrance upon check in everything smells of smoke. The gentleman at the entrance was very subdued and seemed extremely listless rather annoyed. Alleged wellness area is currently defective!
There is no elevator in the hotel. In the whole hotel it is musty and everything looks dingy and lively. The rooms are not nice and do not invite you to linger. Furniture looks like bulky waste. Beds uncomfortable and musty. Bath run down in places. Skylight does not open properly.
Shower head cannot be locked. Towels smell unpleasant.
Actually, you don't want to use anything here.
Balcony you have to share with other guests, no privacy. Other guests could enter their own room via shared balcony.
Breakfast consistently bad. No fresh produce whatsoever. Everything bought from the cheapest discounter and put down. Breakfast room was extremely uncomfortable and dingy.
The lady in the kitchen was trying very hard but it didn't rip it out anymore.
Card payment although indicated not possible. I can not recommend this place to anyone and would not stop here again. What you expect of the guests here is a cheek.

Give a wide berth

The worst hotel I have ever been to. For the staff, the match on TV was more important, and in the morning the woman didn't even listen to my comments and just turned away. The dirty room was very kindly replaced with a cleaner one. If it wasn't for the night, I wouldn't have stayed there. I do not recommend.

Mixed experience in Oberau

This small hotel is located close to Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We found the room to be vey clean, and there was a nice balcony with a view over a little garden. The price is acceptable, but not budget. Check-in is uncomplicated, and the lady at the reception was pleasant and professional. The beds are comfortable, and breakfast is good. One problem at this place is the problem to get internet connection.(We would have very much needed this in order to check in for an upcoming flight connection.) When we asked for help, the response of the gentleman who manages this hoteln was rather grumpy and unsupportive: he had spent so much money, and here we were complaining!! We could clearly see from our computers, that all that was needed was a password, but he was unwilling to give this to us.
