Short vacation in Speyer

Contrary to the bad reviews I read here, we felt comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent. The room was small but sufficient. Great importance was placed on cleanliness in the room and bathroom. The staff was friendly and helpful.
There is still some room for improvement at the breakfast buffet. Although everything you needed, even smoked salmon, was there, the buffet just didn't come across that way.
But here, too, the buffet staff often came to check on replenishing food and cleanliness.

Experience

My impression: well-located hotel; they did a good job with the concept, design, and furnishings, but I don't think the implementation of the breakfast and hygiene is good. Since one can read in the reviews as early as 2025 that it would be appropriate, due to wait times—and not short ones—and the fact that there is only one coffee machine in the breakfast room, the owner/operator should really give it some thought; there were certainly enough bookings and guests, after all. Work should also be done to improve hygiene. The restrooms by the breakfast room—impossible; no toilet paper in two of the three toilets and very dusty. A bit more cleanliness—dust-free, etc.—would be very appropriate; also, for a 4-star hotel, the breakfast buffet should be a bit more extensive; it was a bit meager and lackluster. Of course, I know that the reception reads this, but perhaps they could also pass it on to the person in charge, who might then take action if they were to read through all these reviews themselves.

An atypical place

Very good value for money! Cordial welcome but our contact only speaks English or German. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed , with , in addition, a nespresso available and a bottle of sparkling water .
Finally, the breakfast is hearty. We will just regret the delay in the supply of pastries and the lack of smile on the waitress’ face.

Large clean room, comfortable bed and bedding. Can open windows (some street noise). Public car park 300m, secure, 16 euros for 24 hrs. Had to ask for key card to be revalidated once, desk staff a bit disorganised but friendly. Excellent location close to main street.

Most silent hotel ever

Looking at all these bad reviews I have to give a good review. We stayed one day on our way to Europa Park and we were so pleased we booked another night on our way back home.
Yes there were inconveniences like no parking at all, and the loading zone was taken by....one of the employees? But he apologized by offering us free drinks for our trouble (walking several long blocks with luggage to get to the free parking in the suburbs outside of downtown).
This hotel is crazily built with three conjoined buildings and random elevator rides/stairways making finding your room an experience. Funny, but not awful like the Labyrinth of Doom revierer wrote (nice job though).
I loved the castle like features, the massive stone stairways, the open spaces, and the reception game area was tasteful and relaxing. I had so much fun waiting on my ride while watching 80s music videos on the big TV at the bar.
Service. Peter was so nice, he seems to really like his job, he gave us tips for getting around the city. However, in the 2 days we were there, it was obvious there was only one person on duty for the entire hotel/concierge service and they were often on smoking breaks (I'd arrive at the hotel, wait at reception, and eventually the dude at the front door, who was smoking, would arrive and be the actual employee.)
I spent a lot of time at reception just waiting for any employee to help me. Ringing the little bell didn't do a thing. They're just outside smoking. That is not normal for a hotel.
OK I get it, it's a dirt cheap hotel, and they cannot afford to employ 2 people at the same time.
Altogether the staff were really cool. When we couldn't use the loading zone, he gave us each a free drink (please wash the wine glass next time).
The room was magnificent. We ordered the Comfort room and it was massive for Europe standards. And although the fridge didn't seem to work at first, it works, but it's so tiny that a single water bottle filled it up and there is no room for the rest of our food. However, we were very thankful for a fridge at all.
The bathroom experience was ....ugh. I loved the shower with impressive water pressure. However I kept slipping on the slippery shower stall floor.
The worst thing about the whole experience was after my wonderful hot, high power shower, as I dried myself off, little black body hairs from the towel stuck to my body (I don't have black hair). As I dried myself, I found NINE little black body hairs stuck on myself. I was disgusted, but I understand this is hard to prevent in hotels, and the hairs are actually clean. Then I took a closer look at the towel heater rack, and found 4 more black body hairs on the rack itself. That's just sloppy. I had such a great shower experience, and such a bad towel experience. I don't know how some hotels don't have this problem, but I wish I didn't have some other dude's hair all over my body after showering.
Despite this, we booked that room again - 237, a huge room - and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's so quiet in there, if you shut the windows before you go to sleep, you might not wake up in the morning because the building is so well insulated you hear nothing and you get the feeling you are the last people on earth. Pure peace for a hotel.
