My stay at the Evergreen Youth Hostel
The staff are incredibly friendly, laid back, and always happy to help. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, which was exactly what I was looking for since I spent most of my time exploring the city. The hostel has free Wi Fi, clean showers, laundry facilities, and a shared kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. Guests often leave behind unopened food, which others are welcome to use. Best of all, the price is very affordable.
One of the things I appreciated most was the atmosphere. This is not a party hostel, and I was grateful for the quiet environment. It also felt very safe, and everyone I met was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed meeting travelers from all over the world who shared a love of Japan and were eager to exchange travel tips and experiences. As an older traveler, I also felt completely welcome here.
A unique bonus is that many young Japanese people visit the hostel to practice their English. It can be surprisingly difficult for visitors to meet local people because everyone has such busy schedules, so these informal language exchanges were one of the highlights of my stay. I appreciated their kindness and help with Japanese, and they appreciated the opportunity to practice English. It created genuine cross cultural friendships.
If I had to mention any drawbacks, the Wi Fi occasionally cut in and out, and the building is not accessible for travelers with mobility disabilities because the rooms are reached by stairs.
Overall, Evergreen Hostel was exactly the kind of place I was hoping to find: affordable, comfortable, quiet, friendly, and full of interesting people. I would happily stay here again the next time I visit Hiroshima.
広島のエバーグリーンホステルに滞在しましたが、とても満足しています。
立地が素晴らしく、静かな住宅街にありながら、平和記念公園や路面電車の駅まで徒歩ですぐです。周辺にはお好み焼きやインド料理など、おいしい飲食店もたくさんあり、とても便利でした。
スタッフの皆さんはとても親切で、リラックスした雰囲気ですが、困ったことがあればいつでも快く助けてくださいました。宿泊施設はシンプルですが清潔で快適です。私は観光で外にいる時間が長かったので、まさに理想的な宿でした。
無料Wi-Fi、シャワー、ランドリー、共用キッチンも利用できます。キッチンでは自炊ができ、宿泊者が置いていった未開封の食品を自由に利用できることもあり、とても助かりました。宿泊料金も非常にリーズナブルで、お財布に優しい宿です。
このホステルで特に気に入ったのは、落ち着いた雰囲気です。いわゆるパーティーホステルではなく、とても静かで安心して過ごせました。年齢を問わず歓迎してくれる雰囲気があり、私のような年配の旅行者でも居心地よく滞在できました。
また、世界中から来た旅行者と出会えるだけでなく、日本人の若い方々が英語を練習するために訪れることも多くあります。日本では地元の方と交流する機会が意外と少ないので、このような自然な国際交流ができたことは滞在中の大きな魅力でした。お互いに言語を教え合いながら交流でき、とても楽しい時間を過ごせました。
あえて改善点を挙げるとすれば、Wi-Fiが時々不安定になることと、建物には階段しかないため、車椅子など移動に配慮が必要な方には利用しにくい点です。
総合的には、静かで安全、リーズナブルで、スタッフも温かく、素晴らしい出会いにも恵まれる、とてもおすすめできるホステルです。広島を訪れる際には、ぜひまた利用したいと思います。

Perfect for solo travelers
If you're staying here long term, there's a fully equipped kitchen for preparing food. Solo travel can get lonely but the staff were very friendly, and I appreciated how they got some of us guests together for a fun, memorable night out downtown.
The futon/bunk bed was cozy and comfortable enough for the night. They provided small lockers for valuables and allowed me to leave my backpack at the hallway after check out. The female room is secured with a code.
The only potential issue I see here is the limited number of toilets and showers should the place get crowded, but I had no problems with this during my stay. Also, bring your own towel. There's a sink/vanity area with hair dryers that's conveniently separated from the toilets/bathrooms, so you don't have to wait for other guests.
I would stay here again should I find myself traveling alone in Hiroshima another time!

All in all okay
I chose this hostel since it's unbeatable regarding the price and location. Within just 5 minutes you can walk to the peace park and A-bomb dome. A tram station is even closer.
When entering you have to put off your shoes and are right in the "living room" as well as the reception. My check-in was a little confusing, since apparently one of the longer staying guests was substituing the manager, who wasn't in the hostel at the time. He explained everything to me as best as he could though. A big plus are the check-in and -out times, since you can check in until evening and when checking out you have time until 11 AM, which is very considerate.
If you need a towel you have to pay an extra fee of 200 ¥ (if I remember correctly).
There are at least 2 rooms with multiple bedrooms. I stayed in the women only room, which had 8 bunk beds. The beds are built pretty closed, as you can see in the pictures. There is only one opening where you can enter (with a curtain as screen). The rest is closed.
My bed was kind of prepared, but I had to do the linen myself. Also the futon was quite worn, I coult feel the wooden blanks beneath me every minute while lying down, which was very uncomfortable.
The facility was very clean, especially the bathroom (there's 2 bathrooms with 1 toilet each) and showers (1 shower room with 2 secluded showers), from what I can tell.
There is even a shared kitchen, where you can prepare your food if you want (I didn't need it though).
Foods and drinks aren't allowed in the bedrooms. You get codes to enter after 10 PM through the front door and another to enter the female only bedroom at all times. There was free Wi-Fi, but I didn't use it, so I can't say anything about the speed or cennection. There were notes everywhere saying that this isn't a party hostel and to keep quiet between 10 PM and 8 AM, but when I was in bed (after 10 PM), I could hear some people in the "living room" chatting loudly and even singing/playing guitar. I'm glad I still can sleep with some noises around, but for people who can't it might be annoying.
I was defenitely missing a locker. There are small lockers in the "living room", but only for valuables. I had to put my stuff in the bed (which luckily has the space for it), but it was still kind of annoying to share the space with my luggage. Fortunately I only had regular backpacks and bags and no big backpack or suitcase with me. If you have bigger luggage, you have to find some space in the room or leave it in the hallway.
The staff was very friendly and tried to help where they could.
All in all the stay was okay, but I'm not sure if I would stay there again... but maybe I'm just not a hostel person and expected too much. :)

Ok, but could be better.
On the other hand, the place was not heated at all (I visited in November), and the showers and the toilets are not the best (comparing to other hostels in Japan).
And for these things, I take two badges.

Convenient location.
Fairly nice interior. Clean except for the showers which weren't super bad but they just definitely weren't clean either.
Staff were mediocre; neither friendly nor unfriendly.
