Geyu Kogen Onsenkyo Bi No Yu Semi Onsen si trova a Kitakami. Parco Quasi-Nazionale Kurikoma e Parco Tenshochi sono due tappe fondamentali per gli amanti della natura. Great traditional onsen off the beaten track

Traditional style onsen in the countryside. Slightly old looking but very comfortable with good amenities and friendly staff. It’s located close to the Geto kogen ski slopes, a short drive from Kitakami. On google maps it’s only written in Japanese - 瀬美温泉. Next to the river so you can enjoy river views from your room or the outdoor bath (rotemburo). There are two small private baths and you reserve one included in the price. If you want to use it more than once it costs an extra ¥500. It cost ¥34,000 for a night in a room with a river view with breakfast and dinner included. It was good value as we paid ¥44,000 for a similar onsen in Yamagata. I was able to book directly on their website. Highly recommended.

A great experience!

Shoes were taken off at the door and the hotel has a policy of ‘socks or bare feet’, which was fine by us. Socks were supplied in the room, if you didn’t want to wear your own.
The hotel is a bit of a maze but we were guided personally to our rooms, and staff made sure that we had everything that we needed.
The room was a new experience for us, with tatami mats set up with a table and chairs when we arrived and then converted for sleeping with futon mattresses. Unfortunately, I’m rather taller than your average ryokan guest and so spilled over the edges of the mattress. The small pillows (filled with buckwheat?) were also a bit of a challenge.
Facilities in the room include a sink and a toilet but no shower. This is zero problem because there is a huge choice of different onsens, all of which are excellent.
Traditional dinners and breakfasts were served in the dining room; huge feasts of small dishes, all beautifully presented. I suspect that I made many gaffs in the manner in which I ate everything but I thoroughly enjoyed it all.
We also very much enjoyed the cultural dance show, and making use of the karaoke room!
Thank you to all the staff who made us all feel so special and introduced us (gently) to the ryokan concept.

I discovered a hidden gem!

Must see!!
We stayed here for the Omagari Fireworks Festival in Akita.
There was a huge traffic jam and we had to check in at 1am, but they greeted us with a smile and no complaints.
They explained everything about the facility carefully and even gave us a surprise upgrade!
The excellent hospitality and the smooth, flowing hot springs completely satisfied our body and mind, which had been exhausted by the fireworks festival.
The breakfast was also excellent, and the delicious coffee after the meal and the great view in the new lobby made us feel elegant from the morning.
The facilities are a little old, but they are kept clean.
It is not a so-called "luxury inn," but the exceptional hospitality was very impressive.
I have been to inns all over the country that cost tens of thousands of yen per night, but the customer service at this inn was on par with those inns, and in fact, I would say that it is a recommended inn that will give you even more satisfaction than that, considering the price.
Next time, I would like to check in during normal hours and enjoy this excellent inn to the fullest.

Food is Incredible!!

This ryokan outside of Kitakami and 9km from Geto Kogen ski area is comfortable and informal. While quite expensive, the food alone makes it worth the stay.
There are 3 different insensitive for each gender and even private onsens.
But the food is just amazing.

Beautiful Onsen

This is a beautiful ryokan and the rotemburo was a real treat. We had a western twin room that was immaculately clean and comfortable. The staff were very accomodating and helpful.
The meals were Japanese style with many, many beautifully prepared courses.
Our only issue regarding transportation to and from Geto Kogan ski resort was quickly resolved. A free shuttle was organised to and from the ryokan at a negotiated time.
