Couldn’t ask for more
Yoko-san has hospitality in her blood. For well over a century, her family has operated this beautiful ryokan, and it shows. Every detail was attended to - the room was impeccable, the futons were comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious, and everyone went out of their way to make my 9 year old feel welcome and comfortable. On top of how well we were treated, the location is easy and the neighborhood is quiet and a lot more authentic than some of the more tourist heavy spots in Kyoto.
I’ll never need to do research on where to stay in Kyoto again. The only answer is Mitsuki.

We stayed at a real ryokan in Kyoto and was the best experience we’ve had. Felt like we were really in Japan.
PS—our family is fortunate that we have the time and money to travel and have stayed at countless hotels (106 countries over 40+ years, you do the math) and as you can see from my profile, I rarely post reviews. But since tipping is frowned upon in Japan, even considered rude, I am taking the time from our vacation to write this review as our way of saying “Ōkini” to Yoko for everything.

Wonderful Ryokan experience during Obon
Yoko is hospitable and welcoming.

Perfection.
Yoko is the most wonderful host suggesting sights for us to visit. On arrival we were taken into the private bar planned our visit and checked in.
The atmosphere is so calming the rooms are clean and extremely roomy. The breakfast each morning was presented so perfectly and different each day.
The private bar is just a perfect place to share your day over a sake.
