Just an amazing visit to JPS!!

We were a group of 7 skiers visiting JPS in late Jan 2026. We could not be happier with the entire JPS experience. Annie and Dutchie are just amazing people, wonderful hosts, chiefs, backcountry guides and everything you might want during a winter visit to the Madarao area. Their entire staff was just so friendly, competent, interesting and extremely helpful. If we could rate them all a 10 out of 10, we would. Definitely sign up for the multi course dinners they do a few nights in the lodge, you'll be amazed.

Exquisite, nutritious and delicious dégustation

We didn’t stay at the lodge but our group of eight came here to experience the 6 course dégustation. It was some of the best food we ate on the mountain. I was particularly thrilled to eat so many vegetables (the Japanese meals are a bit light on veggies in the snow). The produce is locally sourced and each dish is prepared with extreme care and attention. Beautiful presentation, light in the stomach, flavoursome. I normally avoid dessert - but the apple dish was the highlight of the meal. Thank you Dutchie.

The only place you should stay in Madarao!

Our time at Japan Snow Sports was amazing. Annie and Dutchie are superb hosts.
Dutchie is a brilliant chef and the special feasts he created with the local produce blew our tastes buds especially with the wine pairings!
Annie is a fabulous mountain guide and for us first time Japan goers this guidance and knowledge was invaluable.
The planning process of this trip was also made so much easier and stress free with Annie’s help.
We all absolutely loved our time in Madarao and will be back for sure, couldn’t recommend it enough!

A great stay!

We chose to book with Japan Snowsports because Annie (the owner) was very responsive, even after we have signed on. She went on to keep up updated and answered promptly to our queries, up to the day that we turned up at the train station.
We were well taken care of during the trip, from transfer to lodging, meals, rental of gears and snowboarding classes. Not only were Annie (and Dutchie, her co-owners) warm and friendly, the other staff and instructors were super nice and made the stay comfortable.
Breakfast was interesting, where we were all seated at the big dining table and got to know the other families staying in the lodge. We also got to hear the interesting stories of the different instructors, who drove us to the ski resort/ dinner places. Overall, we had fun.

Best Lodge I've stayed in

This lodge is absolutely amazing, on every level JP snowsports knocked it out of the park.
For a mid-range price we had an experience that I'd happily describe as luxury. It's not so much the rooms (which are nice, clean, comfortable and warm) its the extra touches like the woodfired heater in the common area with the couches. Freshly baked bread and good coffee in the morning. A rotating breakfast menu. Fridge full of beers for reasonable prices. AMAZING hosts Annie and Dutchie. All in all that would have made for an excellent experiences but the additional things they offer are superlative.
First up they offer a range of lesson/tour options. We did a back country tour with Duchie which was the best lesson I've done - we saw some secret trails and he gave us some amazing tips on our riding (as well as a mini avalanche tour)
Secondly they do a hosted degustation dinner which uses local ingredients - absolutely fantastic and totally unique. An absolute must.
Overall a great lodge, elevated by an amazing team offering amazing experiences. I could not recommend more highly
