Nanaeyae onsen in Nikko Japan

We only had one night in Nikko. It was booked for us by our tour company. When we arrived, we were a little disappointed in the look of the place from outside. The property is in what must have been an absolute Mecca for onsen devotees. The current situation is that the area along the river in the vicinity of the hotel appears to have seen better days. We passed a few nice looking big hotels. We also passed several hotels that were either abandoned or not well kept. This hotel is unimpressive from the outside as you approach from what turns out to be the fourth of five floors. The rooms are below street level overlooking the river below. The hotel is fantastic! Our room had its own hot tub, plenty of room and the ability to slide panels to close the bed area off from the rest of the room. The dinner was exceptional. The bathing and toilet areas were well laid out and, as with most of Japan, super clean. We wished we had booked more time in Nikko!

Nikko, but not the part of Nikko we expected

This hotel, although it has a Nikko address, is not near the shrines, temples and walks we intended. It is many miles away, and it takes two trains to get there. Rather it is in Kinugawa Onsen, with a Nikko address. The area has many onsen hotels - it is quite built up with some massive hotels.
Now for the good news. Our stay there was lovely. Almost all of the guests are Japanese, which is nice. The onsen includes an outdoor onsen, which is wonderful. The view down to the river is also lovely, although hotels and power line towers are always present.
Breakfast and dinners were excellent. You are served dinner in a private room.
The staff was wonderful and helpful. Beware, check-out policy is strictly enforced.
Highly recommended as long as you know where you are going.

The room and public onsen were really nice and had a beautiful view. The food was really good and the service great.

Overall experience 5/5! Staffs were friendly and helpful! Food were great! Rooms were very spacious!
Highly recommend this hotel!

清静，絕對有私人空間，不會像其他的温泉旅館般熱鬧。還有好客，熱心服務的服務員。 A quiet, private place with warm-hearted employees.

如果你想有一個清静的地方享受環境及温泉，就是這裡。房間優雅，用膳的地方亦都是一個個私人房間。服務員有來自不同亞州國家的青少年，他們都很熱心服務。
多謝女主管在我生日用晚膳時登意到來祝賀。
If you want a quiet place to enjoy the scenary, onsen and food, this is the place. The rooms are elegant and you have your own room for meal. There are many young employees (trainees) from different asian countries, so it may be a bit easier to communicate in English. They are all devoted to their work.
Thank you for the supervisor to come to the dinning room and wish me to have a happy birthday.
