Solid hotel with good staff and good food

The location of RISHIRI Marine Hotel is good. It is very close to ferry terminal and shops. The airport is nearby. There were a few English speaking staff which made it easier for those of us who don’t speak Japanese. All of the staff that I ran into were kind and helpful. They have bicycles at the hotel to rent. It is a hotel that hosts many big groups. They have thoughtfully separated the groups dining area from the common dining area. That said, the baths can get quite crowded. My room was nice and comfortable with a private bathroom that had a tub/shower combo. I had half board package. The meals were delicious. The only negative, which for me is a big deal, is they had a smokers’ room in the main part of the hotel close to the front desk, gift shop and front doors - it was supposed to filter out the cigarette smoke which it did very poorly. The main part of the hotel smelled like cigarette smoke much of the time. For peace and serenity and more importantly, the health of all, that smoking room should be moved to a more isolated or outdoor space or at least get extra exhaust fans so that it works properly. While I did my stay at the RISHIRI Marine hotel, I probably won’t come back due to the cigarette smell.

This was such a nice hotel to stay in, within eyesight and a 6 minute walk of the ferry terminal. So convenient! The staff was very friendly and helpful in English. They even gave us a morning ride to the trail head to hike Mt Rishiri. The best part was the food! The dinner was a beautiful spread of dishes and so tasty. Breakfast was the same. We had a perfect view of Mt Rishiri and the harbour. Also the trail up to the observation point and lighthouse is right behind the hotel.

Very good location! Just few minutes walk to the ferry terminal! Friendly staff, nice environment! We booked a room with 2 meals in a very reasonable price!

Comfortable stay

The best location is close to the ferry dock and Cape Peshi.
I went outside after dinner and the sun set on Mt. Rishiri and it appeared in the darkness to the top and was very beautiful.
The room was spacious, clean and relaxing.
Both in Wakkanai and Rebun Island, I ate bahun urchin, and this one was very good.
Nostalgic seasoned boiled fish and chawanmushi reminded me of my mother.

Nice staff and stay by the ocean.

There are few places to stay on rishiri as most people come as day trippers from wakkanai. We picked the marine hotel as it was close to the ferry and for the views of mount rishiri. We arranged for an airport pickup which was nice. Our main concern was for our lack Japanese speaking but the man at the front desk spoke enough English to get us checked in. Like a lot of Japanese hotels we were given a paper with information in English about the hotel-dining and onsen hours. The food was half board and we were given a large seafood dinner every night. We stayed 3 nights and the food was different every night with a set kaiseki style meal with emphasis on sea urchin/uni. Fortunately our waitress Aoi was very nice and spoke enough English to explain what all the dishes were as well as a menu in English was given every night. Our twin room had a nice view of the ocean and we could see mount rishiri if we stuck our head out of the window a little. We watched the locals bring in their konbu/kelp every morning from our room and set it out to dry. There was a man at the tourist desk in the ferry terminal who spoke English and was very helpful with information and planning activities. Rishiri is for tourists looking for nature and not expecting the usual Hilton experience.
