Spacious Top-Floor Upgrade and Outstanding Sendai Breakfast at The Westin Sendai

Business travel doesn't often come with unexpected comfort, but my one-night stay at The Westin Sendai delivered exactly that. Standing tall in the Aoba-dori Ichibancho redevelopment area, within easy walking distance of Sendai Station, the tower itself commands attention long before check-in.
Thanks to Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite benefits, my reservation was upgraded to a room on one of the highest floors. The moment mattered: high ceilings, generous floor space, and a quiet, well-insulated interior that felt noticeably larger than comparably priced rooms in central Tokyo. Given the room rate fell in the 30,000–40,000 yen range per person, the value proposition here is hard to argue with. Views over the Sendai skyline added a calm backdrop for winding down after a day of meetings.
Breakfast the next morning, served at the in-house restaurant Symphony, turned out to be a highlight in its own right. Arriving just before 7am, I was surprised to find the room already filling up — a testament to its popularity among guests. The spread leaned heavily into Sendai's culinary identity: a beef-tongue omelet finished in a beef stew style, tsukudani-style simmered beef tongue, sasa-kamaboko fish cakes, Inaniwa udon, and house-made tofu. The standout, unexpectedly, was imoni, a local taro stew with remarkable depth of flavor — good enough to go back for seconds. Zao cream cheese salted butter bread and Zao plain yogurt, both easy to overlook on a crowded buffet, deserve equal attention.
Since the breakfast room grew fairly lively, I moved to the executive lounge afterward for a quiet coffee before heading into the day. For a solo business traveler, that kind of transition space matters more than it might sound — it's where the morning actually starts to feel productive.
Overall, this is a hotel that punches well above what its rate suggests, particularly for anyone comparing it to central Tokyo properties. Between the room upgrade, the breakfast quality, and the calm of the lounge, it's easily one of the better business-travel stays available in the Tohoku region. I'd return without hesitation.

Great value of money

Great service, we had room upgrade for gold elite member this time for free, the lobby located on the 26 floor and indeed has a nice city view from the 28th floor. The warm service from the receptionist who welcomed us with warm greetings.
The room is spacious and has good amenities.

Platinum Elite perks are amazing

The first free stay of this year's Bonvoy Platinum Elite!
It's a 10-minute walk from Sendai Station, but in a new, beautiful building, the Platinum Elite benefits are optional, but you get a free fridge, free wine, room upgrades, and free alcohol at the regular buffet level, not just snacks, in the executive lounge. Breakfast is also free.
The atmosphere is similar to Yokohama, which is also the Westin, and the scenery is similar.
You can enjoy a comfortable hotel stay.

Nice hotel but not perfect

This is a nice hotel, with some quirks. Because it is a Marriott franchisee and not a true Marriott brand, some suites are not available for free upgrades to Bonvoy Elite members. The Symphony restaurant that serves breakfast is too small for the number of guests on weekends, resulting on long waits. On the other hand, the executive lounge is good, and staff is very helpful, especially Ms. Pham Anh Thu. Another minus is the lack of useable drawers in the rooms, making it hard for guests who stay for longer periods. The furniture is meant to look good, not functional. Any drawers that were there were used for hotel purposes (storing coffee equipment, etc.).

Convenient location and great view from the upper floors. The room was spacious and the bed and bathroom perfect. The breakfast is expensive for what it is at $28 and we opted for it only once. There are good options nearby. Overall, it proved an amazing stay.
