Room didn't feel secure (faulty door & broken window), but because everyone was so nice I didn't fear for my dirty socks
After receiving a call to say our holiday was cancelled we spent 6 hours searching for a new holiday before giving up and booking an allocation on arrival with Olympic holidays.
Because we were looking to fly back before the UK school holidays ended, it meant we were limited to when we could fly, and the flights alone were coming back at £250 - £350 each, we ended up paying £304 each which included baggage, transfers and accommodation
I figured if we booked and the Hotel was poor we could always ask to move, or pay for something ourselves since we looked at this as free accommodation.
When we arrived at the resort the coach rep seemed a little flustered as no one was available to show us to the rooms, we were initially told we were staying at the Piccadilly Hotel, however after waiting a few minutes we were advised we were actually staying at the Zantino complex just behind the Hotel.
We followed a guy on a bike to the studios just 1 minute away, it was all very casual, no details were taken, we walked up a flight of stairs and he pointed at three available rooms and left us to fight it out with another family for the best room. They walked to the end right apartment and we walked to the end left.
We went to Room 10 first, we noticed was a toaster and a manky old fridge that stunk, I'd just sat in a flimsy plastic chair on the balcony to enjoy the view when the family asked if we wouldn't mind moving rooms, Olympic hadn't provided the family room requested and so they wanted two rooms next to each other.
We then moved to room 13
The door handle was loose on the spindle, and the door really needed to be forced once opened as it stuck to the floor, I was worried the handle may actually fall off, and when we looked at the bathroom window it made me believe that had happened before, as the window wouldn't close properly or lock, it looked like someone had forced it open at some point, I've attached a photo, this meant when we went out we locked the bathroom door from the outside as the window could be forced open easily (this was reported to the Rep)
The wall mount for the shower was damaged meaning you had to hold the shower, but you were lucky if you actually got it to work. You could either run a cold shower or you could turn it to hot and run a cold shower with the water cutting off every few seconds. I was here for a week and never had one hot shower.
The maid service only came twice in a week, which wouldn't be a problem in Spain but in Greece when you're told not to flush paper down the toilet, 3 days is a long and smelly time, (I've not attached a photo of that).
We never asked about the AC,
but if plugged in the AC would come on if the balcony doors were closed, however without a remote we couldn't change the settings.
As I mentioned in a picture the balcony doors didn't sit correctly on their runners, meaning they kept jumping off and because of that the breaker above the door for the AC would think the door was still open and would turn itself off after 10 sections.
The studios have no pool, and no facilities outside your room,
However the truth is this was a base to crash, we would have paid for somewhere else but we couldn't justify the money when it was all much of a muchness.
The resort is small and generally quiet, everyone is lovely, all the Greek family run restaurants and hotels were happy for you to use their facilities regardless of where you were staying, I don't know if they are all working together to keep the resort alive or if they are all just that nice, I've never been anywhere like it, the people are seriously helpful and accommodating. As well as the natives Alykes has a large expat community, mostly English, so you can eat in a nice authentic Greek restaurant and then go next door and drink in an expat bar.
Final note on the Zantino,
as it's off the road it's a lot quieter than other accommodation, you wont be hearing quad bikes every hour, the only noise you'll be hearing (Other than the karaoke 2 nights a week in cheers ) is the cockerels outside, it was funny at first, but after a few days I switched from lamb kebabs to chicken, hopefully that will be one less that will keep you awake.
