Welcome with a big smile - great start of a vacation

At Stella Maris hotel in Marmari, at early August morning we were welcomed by a receptionist with a big smile. When you receive such a welcome after a night flight and still a bit tired, it is really a great start of the vacation.
Nice Hotel, just a few meters from a wonderful sandy beach, a clean and spacious room, with a view at the beach, and really excellent staff. They seem never to be tired. Any time of the day, if you need something, all you have to do is ask, and you will be served (fast and with a smile).
We spent really great vacation there.

Good location next to the beach, friendly staff, beautiful pool area.

Location in Marmari was lovely right on the beach front with plenty of bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets around the corner. The pool area was lovely with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The rooms were outdated and poor quality. Our room had a smashed window in the bathroom, old furniture and wardrobes however it did the job for what we needed and for the value of money we payed. The staff were helpful in terms of booking taxis and helping with anything. This is a 26 min taxi ride into Kos Town which cost around €25-€28 one way. There is no restaurant or bar at this hotel for breakfast and drinks you have to walk to the other hotel down the road (3 mins) however there is a man who comes around with a menu and delivers drinks and food to you by the sunbed. Would definitely return for a cheap holiday.

Quite good / wspaniałe POLSKIE BIURO PODRÓŻY na miejscu!

The room
According to the earthquake that took place about a week before our arrival, we were given a different room without the sea view that we have paid for. Luckily the receptionist made up for our loss and after 2 days we got promised room.
Unfortunately, when the receptionist showed me the balcony of the room from the outside and she didn't notice that someone was sitting there. As I understand, someone was still living in our room. We did not quarrel but the fact that someone was there and we were in a different room not due to the earthquake is inexcusable.
The room was cleaned every day and cleaning ladies were very friendly. The towels were said to be changed every 3 days, unfortunately they were never ...
Generally quite clean.
The earthquake and news
In the news it was a storm in a teacup. Only some monuments were destroyed in the city of Kos.
The hotel
As a 3star hotel it has a very big swimming pool with different depths. There is also a place for kids in the swimming pool. The water is clean but all around it could have been cleaner. A lot of flowery bushes and palms pleasing the eye. There is also a bar with drinks and snacks - reasonable prices.
At the reception desk there always should be someone but there is only one receptionist working there. It's a huge mistake. Also the TUI resident should be somewhere around, just in case, and again - she was NOT.
Food
Because Stella Maris offers only breakfasts and dinners, there should be a wide variety.
Breakfasts very monotonous but! drinks are included in the price (hot chocolate, tea, coffee, water, orange and apple juice - not natural).
When it comes to dinners the situation looks a bit better. Variety of dishes is wider but drinks are not included in the price.
A pity, that we have never tried fish at the island where fish are cheap and of good quality.
Generally the food was good but when you go on holidays you would love to be treated at the highest standards (a 3star hotel should has its standards as well).
The city of Kos
Beautiful place, lovely narrow streets, pleasant people. Small but very cosy.
The Beach
Long and sandy - warm sea and very clean. Also very shallow!
Right by the hotel!
Facultative trips
If you want to see the beauty of the island look for trips offered by local travel agents. They will be cheaper and the offer is more interesting.
Ponieważ jesteśmy z Polski, wybraliśmy całodniową wycieczkę z KOS ADVENTURES. Fantastyczna wycieczka w małym gronie - sami Polacy.
Świetni ludzie i wspaniałe przeżycia - szczerze polecam KOS ADVENTURES!

Has seen better days but great position and acceptable rooms

The hotel appears to be officially rated 3 stars which seems about right. I dithered over whether to give 3 or 4 stars in this review but in the end chose 4 as the hotel is in a great position, the staff we encountered were friendly and polite and the price we paid was reasonable for what we got. The hotel is virtually on the beach - a few steps away.
As I've indicated in my heading, it is clear this was once a rather better hotel than it is now. The design is quite modern yet the room decor, amenities and furnishing was rather 'tired.' The garden was pretty and quite well kept and the pool area and common parts of the hotel all seemed well maintained.
To reach our room we had to climb two flights of external stairs. These were quite manageable but tough going in the heat! If you are not fit you might want to ask for a ground floor room. The door to the room was thus effectively an external door and it didn't close very positively (it stuck somewhat), although the people in the next room had a door that closed so positively they had to call for assistance from the staff to get them out of the room!
We were told that two sunbeds and a sunshade on the beach was 5 Euros per day - we used this and the beds were very comfortable; get a receipt when paying so you can prove payment if you want to leave for a while and return the same day.
We were also told a buffet breaksfast was available at the hotel's nearby bar/restaurant from 8.00am at a further cost of 5 Euros per head. We didn't use this facility.
These payments may not apply to anyone on a package holiday - we were travelling independently - enquire if you want to know.
The room had a decent sized and relatively private balcony with two chairs and a table and a view of the pool area - see photograph.
The beds were adequate rather than extra comfortable. The pillows were VERY, VERY squashy but a firm pillow was quickly provided when my wife asked for one. The room was maintained in reasonably clean condition. Our towels were only changed on the last day of our 4 nights stay. Air conditioning, a hair dryer, a wall-mounted TV and a small refrigerator were supplied, although we used none of these. The air copnditioning, we were told, would only operate if the very large sliding door to the balcony was closed, which seems reasonable enough. The room wall to the balcony was effectively all glass with decent curtains and mosquito/fly screens.
The room was a decent size, the bathroom small but adequate. There was nothing to attach the shower head to, so this had to be held in one hand during use. The shower tray was cracked (repaired) and stained. For some reason the mixer tap for the washbasin managed to spray out over the edge of the basin!
There was a built in wardrobe/cupboard but with only 4 hangers supplied. Some of the furniture looked as though it had stood in water for some time at some stage of its life - perhaps it had been in an area that flooded in the past. The room lighting was bad, very, very dim and inadequate even if it was all turned on at once. Needs stronger powered light bulbs.
