It’s great, just book it!

First of all; A really big special thank you to Maria from the restaurant, Fotini from the loungebar, the hotelmanager and all of the great staff who really work with their hearts and who made my holiday to a relaxt and nice vacation.
The resort and rooms are clean, cosy, modern and a nice place to stay at. Where the food is good, the atmosphere is quiet and the Greek people are nice. A loved to swim in the pool and the sea, who are just a stone throw away!
The only thing I can think of what could be better is that the rooms 151 > 155 are next to the bar and ûnder the diningroom, they are a bit noisy. But you can swap rooms if you ask!

Nice location but mediocre

Location of the Hotel is superb and the view stunning, close to the dikti mountains and overlooking a bay stretching from Anissaras to Neapoli.
Free secure parking at the hotel if you rent a car.
The staff are also friendly and do their best to make your holiday a fun experience.
However, I cannot ignore the fact that I paid too much for what I got, with reason for the following things.
Cleanliness in the rooms is substandard, the cleaning lady tries very hard and cleaned the room very neatly every day.
But stains on the bed linen, lampshades, a musty air conditioning (at startup) and finding clogged very dirty towels with something I don't want to know what it was is still a downer to our feeling.
The food at the buffet was also more substandard than it reached the standard.
Often burnt pieces of meat, fried vegetables too raw and but always the same recurring dishes.
Although I understand that this is a family hotel, focused on international tourism, we would have liked to taste some more Greek cuisine.
The fruit and the raw food buffet was fresh every day and you can taste that immediately.
The range of drinks is also limited in the all-in formula.
We did not expect free cocktails but maybe only an imposition instead of full price (+/- 9 euros).
I also didn't find any red wine anywhere on the menu. (Only white and rosé and these were not tasty)
And then our biggest annoyance, the daily bed race.
We like to go on an excursion and then cool off the rest of the day in the pool. However, people are already lining up 45 - 30 minutes before opening to put their towel on the bed.
Then the cot stays empty for half the day with a towel on.
So if you want to lie by the pool in the afternoon for a refreshing swim and then rest with a bed, that is not possible. No cot available bar. There is no check on the cots, too bad.
It is certainly not a bad hotel and I would recommend it for families.
We ourselves were there with a child, but we have done hotels with all-in before and this hotel performed below expectations. (Especially with the price we paid for a family room)
Praise for the location and staff but actually this hotel has one star too many, 3 stars is a better description than 4.

Not the best

Food is boring, all inclusive drinks very poor, however Staff are nice and location is ok. Make sure you get down at 8.50 to get a poolside bed and be prepared for jumpers over the gate to get one before you.
Would I go back to this hotel, no I would not.
Also, the name Horizon Beach is misleading, Horizon Rocks would be more apt. The closest beach is 15 minutes away.
Some great bars and restaurants close by though if you follow the beach path to escape the blandness of this hotel. The entertainment is literally none existent… maybe once a week.
This hotel could be so much better but it just lacks any kind of quality.
Stalis and Crete is a great place, make sure you visit but have a good look to find the right hotel for your budget. I spent two weeks here in July, God knows how bad it will be in August.

Very mediocre

So, where to start, I don't even know anymore.
Arrived on a Sunday evening, room not ready, well already a hitch, but "upgrade" at least that's their term,
The next day, they offered me to keep the room for 20 euros per additional night, so already, that's a bit of a problem because as a solo traveler, it's already a "commercial assassination"
- It is not a 4* but a 3*
- Pool too small for the club's capacity
- Not enough sun loungers for the club's capacity, so it's a hassle in the morning at 9 a.m. otherwise not a single lounge chair free for the day.
- Room linen must be dirty to get it changed otherwise it is even hung on the balcony to dry.
- As for meals, not much taste or no taste at all and very repetitive just like breakfast
- Greek specialties so good but not present enough
- Do not speak French or very very little and no effort
- Entertainment zero so it is a hotel and not a club
-Bartenders smile when they burn themselves, or else I am not equipped enough to distinguish empathy.
- The staff is not very smiley.
In conclusion, the rooms are clean, a good point nonetheless...
So, if you can avoid it, in terms of value for money, there is definitely better, and I am not ready to return to this club, uh, hotel, sorry....

A real mixture of good and bad.

April 2026 Horizon Beach Hotel, Salis, Crete. With Tui
The hotel has clearly added a new main building to the original set up with lovely sea views from the dining room and pleasant views of hills etc from the other side. There is no beach (the nearest sandy one about a twenty-minute walk away) but there is a platform with a ladder for swimmers to go in the sea. We were in a ‘premier double’- a brand-new room – so new they hadn’t quite finished it. The room was spotless, shower and bathroom very modern and there was a large balcony. The key card entry worked very well.
Although there was a reasonably comfortable double bed, the bedside units were like giant upended cotton reels and were small with no drawers or shelves to put anything in. The phone took up most of the space on one of them and could not be moved without unplugging it. There were several electric points but I would advise taking a double adapter if you can. The room had no bins, hooks of any kind, no towel rail or shower rail (but the floor was non slip) and only one drawer for two to share as part of an open wardrobe unit. There were no chairs or other furniture except a narrow fixed shelf under the mirror. There were thick curtains but no nets or blinds so to have privacy, you had to be in the dark with the lights on. The housekeeper found bins and a small plastic stool for the bathroom for us. They did arrive five days later to fix a towel rail and a bathroom wall hook. We took the balcony chairs into the room and later the small balcony table as well. A drying rack was fixed on the balcony. The kettle was dangerous, no automatic switch off and it burnt you if you did not turn it off the instant it boiled. There were only paper cups provided and only camomile and green tea bags beside coffee sachets. Robes, slippers and beach towels were provided.
The dining room and food were both good except that this hotel has no idea what to do when it rains – it rained for four days. They bank on many guests eating outside so on a fine day all went well, on a wet one it was like an avalanche of people trying to find a table and queues. There were loads of children there of all ages which surprised us but the majority of guests were French or German/Dutch. There was a terrific water park for children but on a wet day absolutely nothing else to do. Entertainment was only provided sometimes outside so we had nothing to do for six evenings but sit in silence in the small bar. A lot of people played cards. There was no kids club of any kind or provision for them inside. When they did provide some entertainment, it was on the terrace and there was no stage so only a few people could actually see it. We were there ten days and had two evening entertainments. The other pool was very cold but some swam in it. There were plenty of loungers outside but stacked in a fixed position like sardines between an umbrella bolted to the floor. The staff, however, without exception, were lovely – so helpful and pleasant. Every one of them spoke English.
Excursions: The land train was fun and along with the local bus, stops almost outside the hotel. We had a land train trip into the mountains into a little village – really good, a coastal ride on the land train, a bus (they look like private coaches) to ‘Agios Nickolaos’ which is a delightful coastal village with a lake but best of all were the two amazing trips we took on a yacht with ‘Malia Yachts’. Almost like a private charter with food and wine and swim stops with snorkels. There are cabins provided for changing and toilets. Maximum 16 people but our second trip only had four. The people running this are amazing.
Salis was virtually closed when we went but just opened up towards the end of our trip in May. There are some restaurants and a taverna or two. I imagine it would be very lively in the Summer. A short walk towards Salis is the ‘Blue Wave’ excursion agency; these go the extra mile to help you get what you want.
Heraklion airport was nowhere near as bad as many had said. We had no delays and got through both ways quickly. They had not started the new system yet.
