Overpriced, Poorly Maintained, and Terrible Service
We traveled all the way from Bangalore for a 2-night stay at Chariot Beach Resort (spending nearly ₹29,000 in total), and it turned out to be a complete waste of money and time. The experience was frustrating from start to finish.
1. Check-In Nightmare & Unexpected Charges:
Upon arrival, we waited 30 minutes in line. A pre-confirmed room upgrade was denied on the spot. Reception offered to show us a Sea View room, but when we returned to the desk 5 minutes later, they claimed it was "sold out." We were forced to move to a cottage and negotiate paying an extra ₹4,000 on top of the ₹25,000+ we had already paid just to get checked in.
2. Horrible Room Condition & Power Cuts:
When we entered the cottage, the Wi-Fi wasn't working, the toilet flush was continuously flowing, and the open shower area didn't even have a shower head installed! While staff eventually fixed the plumbing after some time, the second evening was ruined by repeated, continuous power outages.
3. Hygiene & Property Maintenance:
The resort is poorly maintained. Used plates and food trash were left sitting uncleaned outside various cottages throughout the resort, making the property look dirty and messy. Furthermore, don't expect a direct beach resort—the ocean is 200–300 meters away from the actual property.
4. Low-Quality Food & Exorbitant Pricing:
The complimentary breakfast buffet was very average with minimal options and subpar quality. Worse, the a-la-carte menu pricing is pure extortion:
• ₹1,250 for 2 watermelon juices and 1 pineapple juice. Menu which was shared after the order mentioned the price as 300 whereas we were charged 350
• ₹305 for a single small Thums Up bottle (MRP ₹50).
• ₹300 for basic Idli / Dosa and ₹500 for French fries.
Final Verdict:
Paying nearly ₹30,000 for dirty property grounds, broken plumbing, continuous power cuts, and ridiculously overpriced food is unacceptable. Save your money and look elsewhere in Mahabalipuram.

Best avoided
Food quality has degraded. Buffet set up and kitchen hygiene is questionable. Frankly some of their staff try their best but without adequate support and systems they fail miserably to do any good.
Not an experience you expect when the day rates are beyond premium. Once we checkout, unfortunately it's for the last time.
Chariot Beach resort needs new management ASAP.
Fantastic location with private beach and very accessible to all sightseeing places nearby. If only that were enough
