Remote Location, Overpriced Stay, and Unprofessional Staff
We checked into Surya Kothi on 14th March around 4:30 PM after an exhausting 8.5-hour train journey. I was travelling alone with my daughter, so I had specifically contacted the property beforehand for guidance. Unfortunately, our experience at this property was extremely disappointing.
1. Remote location and difficult commute
Before travelling, I asked the property how to reach the hotel from the railway station, but no proper guidance was provided. The property is located very far from the main city area. Commuting to and from the city is difficult, expensive, and there are very limited cab options. Cabs also take a long time to reach the property due to its remote location, which makes travelling inconvenient if you do not have your own vehicle.
2. Token payment demanded despite not being mentioned on the website
Although the booking on Booking.com clearly mentioned payment at the property, I received a call from the hotel asking me to transfer a ₹1000 token amount for confirmation. This requirement was not mentioned anywhere on the booking page. Since I did not want any issue with the reservation, I transferred the amount 2–3 days before arrival.
3. Unwelcoming check-in experience
After travelling for more than 8 hours, we arrived at the property tired and hungry. Instead of basic hospitality like offering even a glass of water, we were immediately asked to clear the pending payment. I paid the full one-day amount immediately upon arrival.
4. Highly overpriced for the location
Considering the property is in such a remote area, the tariff is very high and comparable to suite prices in 4-star hotels located in much better and more accessible parts of the city.
5. Very uncomfortable behaviour by the manager - Around 9 PM, the manager asked me to send the booking number generated on the website. I sent a screenshot on WhatsApp. A few minutes later he came to our room, entered, and again asked for booking details. Even though the property already had the booking information, he insisted that I open my email from Booking.com and started checking it himself, almost trying to take my phone to look through it. This felt extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable. Eventually he asked me to forward the booking email to his WhatsApp, and later used that information to cancel the booking without my permission.
6. Electricity turned off before checkout
We had informed them that we would most likely check out the next day (15th March). Around 11 AM, even before we had completed checkout, the electricity in our room was turned off, which felt very unprofessional.
7. Incorrect food billing - At checkout when I went to pay the food bill, I noticed that every item we had ordered was billed ₹20–₹50 higher than the price mentioned in the menu. After I pointed this out, they checked and corrected it, reducing the bill from around ₹1150 to ₹950. Had I not checked carefully, we would have been overcharged.
Overall, the remote location, expensive commute, lack of basic hospitality, questionable billing practices, and uncomfortable behaviour from staff made this a very unpleasant stay.
A hotel stay should make guests feel welcome and safe — unfortunately, this experience did the exact opposite. I would not recommend this property to other travellers.
