Amazing hotel manager Monika!

Hotel Vagar is perfect both for it's location to the airport, and also the warmth of welcome from the staff.
I first stayed at Hotel Vagar almost 4 years ago, back when it was essentially a self service hotel with no staff on site. Now it's had a complete overhaul and it's a real gem of a hotel.
What made my stay really special and memorable, was hotel manager Monika.
This was my final night in the Faroe Islands, and i wanted a drink at the bar for my final evening. I was the only person in the bar/restaurant, but Monika went out of her way to make the experience really warm and personal, even lighting a candle at my table and bringing a lovely table lamp to make things feel more cosy.
These personal touches from Monika made such a positive difference to me, and it's a really lovely memory i have now thanks to her!
Overall Hotel Vagar is the perfect place to stay, and if hotel manager Monika reads this review, i want to say thank you so much for making my stay so special and memorable!

7 min walk from airport

The best is before the hotel can be reached on foot from the airport/ Receptionist Restaurant Star Friendly/ Coffee maker/ No safe/ Lighting curtain Good/ TV is difficult to adjust and World Cup game Anonymous World Cup games are only available in the lobby TV / No free drinking water in the room / No room phone

Very cosy.

At first you think that you are approaching an airport maintenance building but once inside you are relived and delighted. Wonderful ambience in the common rooms. The bedroom was well equipped but small. Two people have to manage their movements well. Breakfast was excellent although pricey, of course. Dinner menu is super limited / 5 mains and no starters. Two of the mains, steak and lamb , were prohibitively expensive. Wine limited. Service was delightful. We stayed three nights and felt very cosy.

Convenient and comfortable

The hotel was selected for us in a tour package so we had no expectations. We had a "room with view" booked, but the view was the carpark.
Aside from the room being very warm on our first night - we couldn't find a heat source - it was comfortable and we slept well. The pillows aren't great, but better if you stack them.
Staff were friendly and helpful. The cheeseburger in the restaurant was delicious! Breakfast was the best of the four hotels we stayed in during our trip.

Basic, clean hotel right by the airport

A fairly basic airport hotel, similar to a Holiday Inn. Rooms are clean, simple and quiet, with runway views, which makes it a convenient stop for early or late flights, though there aren’t many of those!
It’s in a remote spot with nothing nearby, no gym, and not much to do, so it’s really only worth staying if you need easy airport access. You’ll need to drive further out for any walks or amenities.
One thing to flag is that the restaurant was closed during our visit, which wasn’t advertised or flagged by local tour companies and they still took our reservation online, and there are no food options nearby, so worth checking ahead before you book if hoping for food!
