A beautiful property, but the service is not always up to a 4-star superior standard.
Precisely because we are talking about a 4-star superior hotel, however, we expected greater attention to various aspects of the service.
The first issue concerned the room television, which would turn on but remained with a black screen. We reported the problem immediately after arrival. A very kind staff member from the property intervened and tried to resolve it by replacing the remote control batteries, while acknowledging that he did not have the necessary technical skills. The following day the problem was still present and, despite our reports, we spent the entire stay without being able to use the television. In a property of this category, we would have expected the replacement of the device or, if it had not been possible to intervene quickly, the proposal of an alternative solution.
The breakfast, although overall varied, could also in our opinion be more in line with the hotel's level. The croissants seemed to us to be frozen products regenerated in the oven, and from a 4-star superior hotel we would have expected a greater presence of fresh pastries. The eggs are prepared to order, which we appreciate, but the service turned out to be rather slow on both mornings. I also recommend specifying how many eggs you would like, because the portion we received was decidedly small.
Some concerns about dinner as well. The first evening, the chef's welcome was lamb-based: a particular choice for a tasting intended indiscriminately for all guests, considering that it is a meat not liked by everyone. The following evening, there was also a first course with lamb ragù. We would have preferred a few more alternatives.
We therefore chose spaghetti aglio e olio: a very simple preparation and a rather small portion compared to our expectations. More generally, while acknowledging the research in the presentation of the dishes, the gastronomic proposal did not always convince us in relation to the category and price of the property.
Another small mix-up concerned the table assignment. The second evening we were accompanied to the dining room, but we found our table occupied. Only by asking for explanations did we discover that another one had been assigned to us. We saw the same situation happen with other guests too: it would be enough to inform them at the entrance to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
With the table change, the half-finished bottle of water left the previous evening was also lost, while on the new table we found one belonging to another room. We therefore ordered a new one, which was duly charged. The problem is certainly not the cost of the bottle, but rather the lack of attention in handling the mix-up.
The restaurant staff, I reiterate, were very kind and even apologized for the delays. The first evening, however, we waited over three-quarters of an hour before the dishes arrived from the kitchen. Some service procedures could also be better managed for a property of this category.
Some difficulties at the time of payment as well. At the time of booking, the entire amount of the stay had been pre-authorized on the card. Wishing to pay with a different card, it was explained to us that it would be necessary to wait because the person capable of handling the release was busy with service. Furthermore, we discovered that American Express was not accepted. In this case, too, we would have expected simpler and more immediate management.
Finally, the elevators are shared with the service staff, and especially in the morning, it happens frequently to find them occupied by laundry and cleaning carts.
In conclusion, the Romantik Hotel Santer undoubtedly has many qualities: our room was truly very beautiful, the pools are splendid, the environments are well-kept, and above all, the cleanliness is impeccable, an aspect that truly deserves to be highlighted. We also appreciated the courtesy of several staff members.
Our impression, however, is that some organizational and service aspects were not up to the expectations that one legitimately has when choosing and paying for a 4-star superior hotel. They are often small details, but in a facility of this level, it is precisely the details that make the difference.
With greater attention to the customer and better service organization, the hotel would certainly have the potential to offer a decidedly better experience.
