Off the beaten track

Excellent Agriturismo slightly off the beaten track for service, locally sourced food and reasonably priced. Cuisine is traditional mountain food of the area.
Will certainly be returning on our next trip to Lake Como. About 15 minutes by car from Menaggio but well worth the effort.

Good restaurant

We were given this address by the hotel loveno. It is 10 minutes by car from Menaggio.
The food and particularly the beef was excellent. The local wine served by the carafe is very decent.
Congratulation to the team.

overrated restaurant offering just traditional home cooking

We had been to Barcola twice before and never managed to really warm up with the place. Since the parking lot appears always full with cars, we figured maybe to have been in a poor mode or simply to have ordered the wrong dishes.
Thus we gave it another try and I have to say that we again did not especially like it: old style alpine farm house traditional cooking with nothing in particular to remember, unless you're into glutamate pimped sauces.
So what makes this place so busy: the restaurant is in a quiet valley in a lovely building, prices are pretty low.
Given the high standards of Italian cuisine and a variety of great places in the vicinity to pick from, Barcola only makes for a sobering experience.

Lovely place

The restaurant is in a quiet valley and in a lovely building. The menu has many unique and farm fresh items. We had the chicken cacciatore, the beef in sauce, salads, and great desserts. Service was very good.

Amazing stay

Quaint hotel tucked away in a peaceful location very close to Lake Como. Charming room, amazing evening meal with exceptionally good steak and the best breakfast we had during our 8 day stay touring the mountains and lakes.
