This is a delightful gem. A welcoming, family-run feeling pervades. Alex, front of house and ever-present is the kindest, most professional and thoughtful member of staff of any hotel I have stayed at in many a year. He is a stand-out legend. Hotel Igea is super-convenient for the main railway station, and walkable to Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Vatican and really anywhere the most avid culture-hound would wish to visit. The air conditioning works effectively, and you feel safe and at home here. Thank you Alex and Team Hotel Igea !!!

DO NOT BOOK HERE!

DO NOT BOOK HERE! They forcefully made me pay €50 making up a story that there was a problem with my booking, arriving after midnight when I had a long day travelling and exhausted, they refused to give me the key unless I paid another $50! Unethical and unprofessional. They post a low price on booking.com to attract clients, then they play this toxic game to steal from people. I see on their google review page that they did play the same game with other travelers. I’m a solo female traveller I’m 45 years old and I travelled solo to much more rough countries and never been treated this way. I have complained to booking.com and did anything to get my hard earned money back, it took me a few weeks but I got it. DO NOT BOOK HERE, save your hard earned money and don’t let this unethical owner scam you.

Excellent welcome from Alex, they let us leave our bags as we arrived too early to check in. Decent room with AC. Breakfast was basic but all we needed. Excellent location near the main train station.

Extraordinary incivility

You learn everything you need to know about a hotel based the people it employs. Arriving after midnight in an unfamiliar city, with dead phones and no sense of direction, my partner and I walked into Hotel Igea, of the few places we could see open, and made the apparently outrageous request of asking to glance at a map or receive the most basic directions.
The receptionist, radiating the joyless authority of a minor bureaucrat on a power-trip, informed us that this kind of basic help was reserved exclusively for paying guests of the hotel.
It was an extraordinary display of incivility, greed, and unkindness. If this is this hotel’s staff’s understanding of hospitality, I shudder to imagine the guest experience itself.
Happily, our faith in humanity and the reputation of Italian hospitality were restored next door, where another receptionist kindly offered the few words we needed, free of charge: “Turn left, then right at the big church.” A simple act of humanity, evidently beyond budget at Hotel Igea.

Convenient location but comfort to review

I stayed at the Hotel Igea for one night. The location is definitely the strong point: it is located a few minutes walk from Termini Station, convenient for those arriving by train or want to move by public transport. The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is also very close, and several main attractions are within walking distance.
The reception is open 24 hours a day and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was clean and of acceptable size for a budget 3 star. Unfortunately, the pillows were really uncomfortable: too empty and , after less than two hours I woke up with a sore neck. I've tried everything I can to fix them, but nothing to do.
Television is an old model with few channels, not bright colors and not always perfect reception. Primitive remote control. After a few attempts I gave up and used the phone to watch something. WiFi present but not very fast, especially in the room.
The bathroom was very small, you went into tetris mode.
Overall the hotel is fine if you are looking for a simple, clean and strategic accommodation to move around without spending too much. However, it is not the best for those who want to sleep well and relax in the evening with the TV. For the price paid (average for the Termini area) you can settle, but bring a travel pillow if you suffer from neck pain!
