Nice small hotel
A small ‘hotel’ with only 9 rooms. Just off the main road and quiet and peaceful, except for the evenings as the crowd in the bar located opposite the hotel can be noisy till late evening.
The room was very comfortable and very clean and very rustic. We had a room with a balcony which was very nice to sit and do some people watching.
There is a small desk which operates as the front office, manned by a very friendly and helpful young man.
Just next to it you can make your coffee and tea to bring up to the room. However there is also a hotpot for hot water in the room.
Breakfast is a simple affair but enough to get you going. No room service but you could order your breakfast and bring it up yourself to the room. Otherwise you can sit outside in the small courtyard and being guarded by the lovely hotel-dog.
Location is good and walkable to anywhere. The nightmarket is approximately 8 mins walk and to Mt.Phousi just 3 mins to the bottom of the many steps up.
Plenty eateries and a supermarket within minutes walking.

We had a great stay in a very cosy and comfortable room, very friendly and helpful staff (esp the guy at reception).
Breakfast was simple but enough to get you going.
Small hotel with just 9 rooms at a great location. We walked everywhere (Nightmarket and Mt.Phousi) eventhough it is bit more than the stated few minutes.

Charming riverside guesthouse with great location and breakfast
We stayed at Villa Namkhan River for three nights and booked two rooms. The location is excellent, right in the center of Luang Prabang, close to the Mekong River and within easy walking distance of the main attractions, cafés and the night market. The WiFi was reliable and fast throughout our stay. The traditional Lao-style design of the building and the calm riverside atmosphere create an authentic and relaxing vibe. Our room was very clean and nicely furnished (although the safes didn’t work), but it could get a bit noisy at times, especially in the evenings. The showers were a mixed experience, the drains often clogged during use, making the water drain very slowly. The breakfast was excellent, everything I tried was fresh and delicious. However, the service could be improved. During check-in, the receptionist seemed distracted and was mostly on the phone, not really paying attention to us. The staff were kind overall, though communication was sometimes a bit difficult since most of them didn’t speak much English. Despite these small inconveniences, Villa Namkhan River offers good value for money thanks to its great location, cleanliness, and wonderful breakfast. It’s a charming option for those who want to stay in a traditional-style guesthouse right in the heart of Luang Prabang.

Pool was a bit cold, but nice outdoor area, close to the river and walking around. Nice staff, they helped book our taxi to the train station. Daily housekeeping & free water. Beautiful room with a balcony.

It was good before but I will never stay there again.
I stayed here for the second time after six years, and it was the worst experience.
1. I ended up staying in a room that smelled of sewage, with no toilet or shower.
2. It seems that the staff at this villa are not in contact with each other.
3. I did not receive a reply to my questions sent by Expedia.
When I stayed here six years ago, I had a nice Lao-style room, and I made a reservation because I wanted to stay there again.
This guesthouse seems to operate three buildings. This time, when I checked in, I was shown to a room in the new building, which was not in the photo at the time of booking. It was explained to me that it is the same accommodation as Villa Namkhan River, because it is run by the same management.
1. When I arrived at the room in the new building, which is not Lao-style, the water in the sink and shower stopped working immediately.
When I told the staff, they said, "The pump is broken. My room doesn't work either. It will be available in five minutes."
When I asked the female owner to change the room, she said, "It's only for one night, right? This is a guesthouse. If you want to change the room, please pay the difference."
As a result, the water only came out for five minutes, and I could not use the toilet or shower overnight. I ended up sleeping in a room that smelled of sewage.
2. I booked a motorbike rental at 8:00am the day before at the front desk. When I checked in the morning, they hadn't communicated anything at all, so they asked me which of the three accommodations I had booked and called to confirm.
I ended up renting the motorbike after the time had passed.
I booked and paid for a shared van to Luang Prabang Station the day before, but they hadn't communicated anything and I was charged twice.
When I told them I had paid, they went to ask the staff.
It seems that the staff have no communication with each other at all.
3. I sent a message through Expedia asking if I could make a reservation for a shower or train, but I didn't get a reply.
I called internationally to inquire, but they just said they would check and get back to me, but I didn't get a reply.
The front desk is not open 24 hours a day.
It used to be a good place to stay.
If you are going to book in the future, please check the new reviews carefully.
