An absolutely wonderful family vacation. The people at Hyatt Ziva Cancun made the trip
We had such a wonderful stay at Hyatt Ziva Cancun. The property is beautiful, we ate incredibly well, there was so much for our family to do, but what really made this trip special were the people. By the end of the week, it honestly felt like so many people around the resort knew our family.
From the second we arrived, Erick from the concierge team was incredible. He met us at the door, took us directly to our room, told us everything we needed to know about the resort, and just completely set us up for the week. We kept running into him throughout our stay, and he was always checking on us, saying hello, and making sure we were having a great time. We found out his birthday was the next day and loved being able to wish him a happy birthday. He is just a genuinely lovely person, and we were so happy to get to know him.
I also need to talk about the food, because I went into an all-inclusive with pretty modest expectations and was genuinely shocked by how good it was. The food was flavorful, seasoned, fresh, and actually delicious. The buffet was phenomenal, with tons of fresh fruit and so many good options. Joaquin made me a perfect omelet every morning, and I have been trying unsuccessfully to recreate it at home ever since. Chevy’s had one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. We had a delicious sushi dinner, and the coffee shop became part of our morning routine for great lattes and espresso. The candy shop also became a regular stop for our son, with its cakes, ice cream, desserts, and wonderful candy. He ate so well on this trip and tried so many things.
One of our best meals was at the adults-only French restaurant, where Luis took such wonderful care of us. My husband had the tomahawk steak, which was absolutely delicious, and we had such a beautiful date night there. Luis recommended the Carnivore dinner later in the week, and we are so glad he did. We had an amazing bottle of wine, a fantastic dinner, and Antonio, our server at Carnivore, made sure we had such a great night. Another thing we loved about dining at the resort was how easy it was. We weren’t spending our vacation stressing about reservations. We could decide where we wanted to eat, walk over, maybe wait a bit, and enjoy dinner.
At the main pool swim-up bar, Daniel basically became our three-year-old son’s personal bartender. He made him virgin Golden Mirages, learned his name, and before long it felt like everyone around the bar knew our family by our son’s name. It was so sweet and made him feel incredibly special.
We rented a beach cabana one day, and Nino took amazing care of us. It was one of those perfect vacation days where we could just relax and enjoy being together, and his service made it even better.
Our family photo shoot with Juan Pablo was another huge highlight. Our son was right in the middle of a very toddler, should-probably-be-napping afternoon, and Juan Pablo was so patient with him. Somehow, he still managed to capture the most beautiful pictures of our family. We are obsessed with them and had to seriously stop ourselves from buying every single photo.
The spa was also fantastic. Sofia gave me an incredible massage and worked so hard on a knot in my back that had been bothering me for close to a year. I went early in the trip specifically so I could relax afterward, and I’m so glad I did. Fernanda gave my husband a wonderful mani-pedi and did an amazing job, especially on those hard-working hands.
I absolutely loved water aerobics with Lulu in the main pool. He was so much fun and brought exactly the right vacation energy.
Alejandra and Justin, who we saw at Mercado and other restaurants including Chevy’s, were so warm every time we saw them. They remembered us, remembered my name, and always made us feel genuinely welcome.
And a huge shout-out to Fidel from security, who was such a pleasure to talk to throughout the week. He knew the property inside and out, always helped point us in the right direction, and clearly took so much pride in taking care of the resort and its guests.
The evening entertainment was great too. We especially loved the magician. He was genuinely impressive, funny, and so entertaining.
And then there is the Kids Club. This was probably the most special part of the trip for us as parents. Ms. Danna, Ms. Karla, Ms. Natalie, and the whole team were incredibly sweet with our son. He did arts and crafts, tried new things, became more independent, and just blossomed over the course of the week. By the end of the trip, our usually cautious little guy was getting on stage by himself to help the Kids Club magician during teepee night. We could not believe it.
Before we left, we stopped by just so he could say goodbye to everyone, and they had put together a special goodbye package and gift for him. That really got us. They didn’t just entertain him. They knew him, cared about him, and made him feel so comfortable and loved. Watching his confidence grow over a few days was incredible.
There were so many little moments like that throughout our stay. People remembered our names, remembered our son, checked on us, made him laugh, and went out of their way to make us feel at home.
To Erick, Daniel, Joaquin, Luis, Antonio, Nino, Juan Pablo, Sofia, Fernanda, Lulu, Alejandra, Justin, Fidel, Ms. Danna, Ms. Karla, Ms. Natalie, and everyone else who took such wonderful care of us: thank you.
We came home with a very happy kid, beautiful family photos, some great meals we are still talking about, and so many wonderful memories. We absolutely loved our stay and cannot wait to come back. ❤️

August 2026 review
I’m going to start by naming the workers that went above and beyond with service. Concierge/bell boy Erick. Jorge & Kevin at El Mercado breakfast. Erick & Karol at Tres Cervezas. Jonathan at Moongate. Fabiola, Patricia & Wilburth at Chevy’s. Clara, Santos, Angel & Joel serving at the pool. Eduardo with entertainment. Viktor at Lorenzo’s. Angelica El Mercado dinner. Jacqueline & Alejandra El Mercado hostesses. These workers made the stay so
much better and they deserve all the accolades. The ocean view room over the dolphins was fantastic, amazing air conditioning and ceiling fan combo. The pools and grounds are top notch. We haven’t been to this resort in 4 years and noticed the food quality has gone down a bit. We still ate and enjoyed but the food should be better at a 5 star. Air conditioning in the restaurants was lacking, the coolest restaurant was the buffet. The gym is great, room service saved us a couple of nights. Without the amazing workers with their service and friendliness I would have deemed this vacation a slight disappointment. Having said that, we still had a great time.

Get the ‘Mercado’ outta here..
Serene, well-kept property, which can easily be 4 or 4.5 if they can fix the food situation.
Avoid avoid- El Mercado, and Lorenzo’s. Only real thing that was edible from Lorenzo’s was pizza. Famed Moongate was unfortunately overrated.
For comparison, one of the families had to extend their stay at the Continental next door due to cancelled flight.. they said the food was vastly better there, although property at Hyatt Ziva is actually far superior.
Our group mostly resorted to Tradewinds and Habanero’s for most of our meals, which was a godsend. The beach area near habanero’s was well kept, almost sans sargassum. Tres Cervezas we did not try. I believe Chevys are essentially one and the same as the lunch bbq- standard fair by the pools.
We did not attempt any specialty spots based on our back to back negative experience at Lorenzo’s and the Moongate.
Overall, a nice place for families without riff-raff, although not much there in terms of entertainment for kids nor adults. Place never felt crowded, service at the pool/ bars/ restaurants were free and easy.. however, we did travel during off season.
Fix your food Hyatt, and we will be back.

Better than expected
Pros:
Rooms are clean. Food at individual restaurants is way better than the buffet (usually the other way around). The staff is fast at acting on requests. Family friendly,little play areas everywhere toddlers might need to wait (lobby, buffet)
Cons:
Private beach area has a short runway to the water, therefore not enough chairs - but the “public” side is larger.

Overall 10/10 for Families
The location is amazing, you are a short walk away from shopping, the pier to Isla Mujeres, clubs and other outside restaurants/bars. The food throughout the resort is amazing with plenty of options but the dinner wait time can vary depending on what time and how many people. The overall atmosphere is great. It’s clean, it’s well put together, and has a great vibe for families - definitely not a party resort. Rooms were spacious, we had 2 connecting rooms and was plenty for 6 of us. However, you do have to pay a $60 fee per night for the connecting rooms, so that was a downside. We spent a ton of time at the pool, we did purchase the cabana experience on multiple days and that was well worth it. The beach was also beautiful and clean. Overall, 10/10 would highly recommend for families.
