Musty, dark and really not quiet
I strongly advise against this accommodation. We were deprived of about 240 euros (actually more like 370 euros). It was by far my worst experience on about 25 trips in 10 years.
What happened: We arrived in the evening. Above the room was a faulty water pump, which started very loudly every 1–2 minutes and caused a pop in the pipes when shutting down.
Contact with the host was only possible via the Booking.com messaging function. I reported the problem. Answer: Nobody works that late, you look at it the next day – the massive disturbance of rest was made my problem. After that we were stalled again and again: Spare part missing, discuss options in the team, spare part will not arrive until tomorrow, team coordination again etc. Communication was only on my initiative. A face-to-face meeting was initially promised for “20 minutes,” then I was kept waiting for 1.5 hours; when asked, it was said that a family health problem prevented the meeting. At my request for compensation for the disturbance (common in Mexico: 50%), the accommodation settled at 20% and promised it in writing, but did not pay for it to date.
The repair took 5 days. On 3. Day one part was still missing, but the pump rarely started and then ran longer – this condition would have been acceptable. Exactly that evening we were offered a replacement accommodation, which I would never have booked based on the reviews; in addition, it was unfavorably far from the center and restaurants (no breakfast booked). Due to lack of sleep and the temporary tolerable pump setting we wanted to stay.
After the repairs were completed on 7 September. Day the pump itself was quiet, but the loud banging remained. In addition, the pump ran again in 1–2 minute intervals (about 10 seconds running time), the popping woke us up despite ear opax.
They offered to refund the remaining 9 nights if we could find a replacement accommodation. We moved, and it was somewhat refunded – however, the overnight price was increased by about 19%.
As long as we were in Mexico: Stalling tactics (“We’ll sort it out in a team”).
After our departure: no more answers. Booking.com could not help despite my written commitment of 20%.
Staff on site are nice but unable to act; decisions are made by one or two people in the background who do not show up.
Room (Casa Yako): musty, only to improve with permanently open window (which is only possible in a few rooms); by courtyard little light, rooms dark (photos do not show this). No balconies, only communal roof terrace (not clear from the description). There is a noisy laundry on the ground floor; even in the 3rd floor there is a OG the skidding is clearly audible and the regular popping in the lines seems to be normal.
I strongly advise against and still wish you a nice holiday.
