Best family holiday
What a beautiful lodge, on a spectacular beach. They have amazing staff who are very friendly and helpful. Jose was a great host and Nelson the best barman. Food was fantastic, the chef made our tuna we caught into 3 beautiful courses, and managed to share with the whole lodge. The excursions were awesome, especially the Dhow to Inhaca island where we ate at a beautiful restaurant called Lucas Resturant. Would definitely recommend Machangulo and hope to go back sometime soon.

BEST HOLIDAY EVER
What an awesome place we stayed here for 7 nights. The staff treated us so well the food was absolutely delicious the rooms were stunning with views to die for.. this was truly one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at in the most beautiful location.
Snorkeling was also awesome experience almost better than diving.

bad experience with the manager
We had booked two nights at Machangulo Beach Lodge, but the hotel had to cancel the second due to bad weather forecasts. We still stayed one night on site, which suits us, but when we asked for a refund for the cancelled night, management told us that this was not possible and only offered us a credit card.
We don't like that because we know we're not coming back. We felt it was unfair not to get any refund for a stay cancelled by the hotel itself.
In summary, it was a disappointing experience and, unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property due to the way the situation was handled.

For clarity, the lodge did not cancel your accommodation. The difficulty that weekend related to the boat transfers, which are operated by an external marine transfer company. Due to weather conditions and safety considerations on the water, the transfer operator advised that departures would not be possible at that time. This is not common at Machangulo Beach Lodge.
Your room at Machangulo Beach Lodge remained available and you were welcome to stay the second night. Although the reservation was made on a discounted non-refundable rate, we still offered the option to postpone the unused night or receive a credit for a future stay. The option to move the dates was unfortunately not suitable for your plans.
Situations like this are fortunately uncommon, but as a marine-access destination the safety of guests and crew on the water must always come first. We are sorry the arrangements did not suit your travel plans and hope you still enjoyed your time at Machangulo.

Lovely secluded lodge an hour from Maputo
An absolutely wonderful, secluded Santa Maria Beach Lodge. Only 10 cabins, treating tourists as friends, very warm atmosphere. Bungalows have everything you need, huge beds with netting, in the evening the person spreads the mosquito canopy and prepares the bed.
In addition to the usual shower there is also a tropical outdoor shower as on
Maldives. The staff is professional, all arrangements, airport meeting, city tour, transportation to the peninsula, complied with. As for the kitchen, it's superb, almost like a Michelin restaurant. A chef definitely deserves a star.
The beach is clean, the sea is warm, there are no mosquitoes.

3 days in Machangulo
A lodge on the beach, discovered by boat from Maputo. An impression of being alone in the world, on an island. An endless sandy beach... a mangrove visited by kayak, Snorkeling. A soothing stay, outside the world, in a place that we would like to keep secret but that we share because all the staff, and especially José, the manager, deserves to be known.
I highly recommend it.
