Comfortable, great location and fun vibe

We went for a family vacation to Bergen and stayed at the Moxy hotel. It’s well connected from airport and to the Bergen city centre by metro, the nearest station being a short 5 min walk. Moxy is located on the river side with incredible views and offering a serene stay. The hotel is large with a huge lobby with nice seating along with some indoor games like foosball. There is a nice bar along with some decent food options as well. However, there aren’t too many eating options in the area around the hotel except for a pizza place and a coop supermarket nearby. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, they helped us with an early check in, especially Ritu who helped ensure a smooth checkin process. The hotel offered freshly brewed coffee and tea options, available through the day, on the house. Loved that small touch especially in the cold Bergen weather. We also requested for a kettle in the room, which they gave us. Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Overall loved the stay at Moxy and would highly recommend if you’re planning a visit to Bergen.

Moxy Experience in Bergen - A Mixed Bag

There is always a first time in life, and my first-ever Moxy experience, in Bergen turned out to be a mixed bag.
On the positive side, I must appreciate the little early check-in facilitated by Ritu Gunjan, who also ensured a smooth and hassle-free checkout. The location is another definite plus, with a lovely waterfront view and a tram stop just a few metres away. The city centre is only about a 10-minute tram ride. Airport is barely 20 minutes. Loved the convenience!
However, there were several shortcomings. The buffet breakfast menu remained almost identical throughout our four-day stay. The 6.30-9.30 am breakfast window felt rather tight, and the lobby-cum-dining area became quite overcrowded during the last half hour.
The concept of self-service seems to have been taken a little too far. There was no electric kettle in the room for tea or coffee, nor there was any telephone. Any assistance required meant making a trip down to the reception, regardless of the time.
What was particularly disappointing was the elevator situation. Both elevators were out of service when we checked in with heavy luggage, and we had to wait for more than an hour while our bags were carried up to the third floor.
The hotel was unable to provide an adapter for charging our phones, leaving us dependent on the reception for charging. Unfortunately, the chargers there were so slow that after an hour, the batteries had barely reached around 50%.
Housekeeping was another area that could have been better. While the bathrooms were attended to, the room itself was not properly tidied.
Overall, the location and the helpfulness of a few members of the staff were definite positives, but the overall experience left us somewhat underwhelmed. I would probably think twice before booking a room in Moxy again. Perhaps it is not my cup of tea.

Great rooms, breakfast not great

Compact rooms that were very clean and a perfect shower ensuite. Could easily lay 2 suitcase and open and close them. Quiet and comfortable beds.
Disappointing was breakfast which was until 9:30. That's OK but when the staff take items away as you are selecting its a bit much. Staff do not clear tables. You are expected to clear your debris for the next person to use the table. Unfortunately no one did so you have to clear someone else's dirty plates before you can eat your own food!

Newer Hotel That's Not for Everyone

We knew going into this place that it wasn't your typical Marriott property. It brands itself as a hotel with a hip young vibe (the lobby decor pushes this hard). The rooms are small and a bit barren (no coffee maker or tea kettle) and it's hard to find room to unpack two suitcases but this location was new and clean. The bathroom was tiny but very well designed. They have a large public space off the lobby to hang since the rooms are small. Although the weather was not hot they actually had AC that worked (not sure how it would do if in the 80's or higher). Leave it to an American hotel in Europe to have functioning AC!
Let me back up to the checkin because the staff was super friendly and helpful. I knew ahead of time that that were no upgrades available as a Platinum member but Eric tried his best to get us a better room... No luck but he gave us extra points even though this stay was on points. The front desk helped us with a number of requests including a late checkout despite being fully booked during peak tourist season.
The location is about a mile from the center of town but in a nice harbor area. Just a few blocks away there is a tram that runs into town and to the airport and is really easy to use and fairly inexpensive (for Norway).
The hotel also has a breakfast buffet that is not bad (better the the typical Fairfield Inn setup in the US). They also have free lockers to leave your bags and a complimentary welcome drink!
Overall a very positive experience!

Excellent stay!

Our stay at Moxy Bergen was excellent. The staff was friendly and efficient at check-in, our room was clean and comfortable, and enjoying our welcome drink on the sunny waterfront patio was a highlight as was the view of the harbor from our upgraded room. Requests, like an extra pillow, were handled quickly, and the team kindly assisted with storing our luggage for pick-up for our Norway in a Nutshell tour. While the hotel is about a 30-minute walk from the main tourist areas, public transit would normally make it more convenient (it was under repair during our visit). In addition, we enjoy walking to get to know a place and it was nice to explore another part of town, with our sleeping quarters in a quieter area. We would gladly stay here again!
