A cosy lodge with outstanding service
My wife and I stayed at Geilo Mountain Lodge for four nights in August and had a very enjoyable experience.
The hotel’s greatest strengths are its atmosphere and service. It is a small and intimate hotel where the staff genuinely make you feel welcome. The service throughout our stay was excellent: friendly, attentive and professional without ever feeling intrusive.
The interior is beautifully designed in an English country-house style reminiscent of the 1920s, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere that sets the lodge apart from larger and more conventional hotels. The beds were very comfortable, and we slept well throughout our stay.
There were, however, a few minor drawbacks. Our room faced the main road, and with the window open at night we could hear traffic noise more than we would have liked. Guests who prefer fresh air while sleeping may want to request a room away from the road.
Breakfast was of high quality, but the same set breakfast was served at the table every morning, with no opportunity to choose alternatives. We would have appreciated options such as oatmeal porridge or cereal with yogurt.
We also missed having a small refrigerator in the room.
Overall, these were relatively minor issues compared with the many positives. Geilo Mountain Lodge is a charming, stylish and welcoming place to stay. The excellent service, cosy atmosphere and comfortable rooms made our stay memorable.
That said, the room rate is probably right at – or perhaps slightly above – the limit of what we would consider good value for money. A little more flexibility at breakfast and a few additional room amenities would have strengthened the overall value proposition.

What an amazing experience!!! The adorable accommodations, the delicious food and the friendly service! It’s a place were the details make the difference!!!
It like to highlight the dinner we had and the breakfast! I recommend you reserve at least one dinner at the lodge and take time to enjoy the breakfast.

Fantastic hotel to definitely go to
A very nice hotel. Rooms look neat and are spacious. Lovely bed. The staff and the owner are super friendly and want to help you with everything. The food, both breakfast and dinner were of high quality and prepared with great care. Looks like a star restaurant. You can park in front of the door and the train station is a 5-minute walk away.

Highest recommendation, surpassed all expectations
Our experience at the Geilo Mountain Lodge surpassed all expectations. Jan and his staff were professional grade and some of the kindest and most thoughtful people we have ever met. Communications were crisp and responsive on logistics arriving and departing. The building itself has been restored and maintained beautifully, the common areas were cozy and welcoming. The rooms were immaculate and we all slept very well. I highly recommend joining for dinner and breakfast and doing one of the available tours. The dinners were some of the best we’ve ever had, and we will have fond memories of our Ride, Hike and Sauna experience with Jan and Timba and Hilda in the mountains of Norway

The best hotel experience we've ever had.
On the occasion of our 31st anniversary, we chose to add the celebration to Geilo Mountain Lodge, and for a fantastic choice it turned out to be. We have previously stayed in several of the Historic Hotels around the country, but this stay really stands out as one of the very best we have experienced.
From the first moment we were greeted with a service and care that made us feel sincerely welcome and cared for. The whole experience was carried out from start to finish, with a rare combination of professionalism, warmth and personal follow-up. We have never before felt so well taken care of at a hotel.
Both the staff and the owners were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, and it was clear that they were passionate about creating great experiences for their guests. Here you will find not only high quality, but also a very special atmosphere characterized by soul, charm and genuine hospitality.
We had an exquisite 4-course dinner with carefully selected wines for each dish. The menu was thought out to the smallest detail, and the taste combinations were simply heavenly. The same high quality we experienced during the breakfast, which was both tasteful and welcoming.
Thank you for a memorable stay. This is a place we highly recommend, and which we would love to return to.
